    Hi,
My husband and I have made our mind up to move to North Wexford and he will commute three days a week to Dublin. We have three young children and I would like to send them to a Church of Ireland school. The eldest will be due to start September 2019. I will be a stay at home Mam after being made redundant recently.
Could you please recommend areas to consider? I like the country laid back life but I would also like to be relatively close to a Montessori and a shop/ pub etc... My husband is fine with the commute, he is unsure whether to drive or commute by train/ bus. He works on Baggot Street.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks in advances

A lot depends on what you have to spend, what you want your lifestyle to be, will you yourself have access to transport to get the children to school and do you meet the criteria to be one of the first served in a C of I school. There are several Montessori Schools in and around Gorey
Gorey and its environs would be the obvious first choice. Christ Church school has an excellent reputation and would be a feeder school for Gorey Community School. You would need to check with Bus Eireann in Waterford to find out about school transport but I imagine in the first few years you would be taking them yourself hence my question about independent transport. Your own transport would open up a lot of options about where to live. In a nutshell, north and east of Gorey tend to be more expensive to buy in than south and west. You might want to be close to the beach for the children in which case Ballymoney or Castletown would be nice but expensive, south would bring the likes of Clough or Camolin where you'd get much more bang for your buck or west to Hollyfort or Killaneirin. North would bring you closer to Arklow and the choice of another C of I school, so really a lot depends on your access to transport.
As for the commute, trains from Gorey would leave you at Pearse Station, about 25mins walk from Baggot St, Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus would give the option of stops at Leeson St or Clare St. Depending on the time of morning traffic can be very slow from about Greystones through to the city, in the absence of traffic Gorey to Baggot St would be about 1 hour or so.

    Hi,
Thanks very much for your response. Yes I will have my own transport. Our budget is about €400,000 and we are looking for a detached house preferably with a bit of space around it. Yes our children are baptised COI, their grandfather is a Vicar in the UK. I am looking for a laid back lifestyle, bring the kids to school/ Montessori, do a few errands, pick them up, go to swimming or dancing or whatever activities they choose. At the weekends I'd like to be close to a town/ village to get out and socialise. We would like to close enough to the motorway so that my husband doesn't have to spend 15-20mins before he actually gets on the road. The buses you mention sound like a great option, his job is flexible so he can work his hours around rush hour etc.
We currently are renting in Clontarf and have moved around a bit in the past few years. I would this to be our last move so that's why I want to make sure that I get the area right and then wait for the right house to come up.

€400,000 is quite an impressive budget and would allow you to look in the Mount Alexander area of Gorey, that is the area between Courtown Road and Ballymoney. Lovely area, nice houses with usually plenty of land attached, would meet the Estate Agents' idea of "most sought after" . <10 mins from motorway, 15 mins from school and church, 10 mins from Ballymoney, Kiltennel and Courtown beaches. Probably a good place to start and will give you an idea of what's available, once you get the Estate Agents' bumph you can spread your search, there are lots of lovely areas around Gorey that your budget would easily cover.

    Hi Lols,
when you say North Wexford is it specifically the NE of the county "Gorey Courtown area" that your after, As you could look at Bunclody it's an up a coming town which is in the NW of the County, its an option that you could look at also as its not to far to the M9 and the N81. Houses in the Bunclody, Clohamon, Killmyshall areas would cost far far less than €400,000.

Gorey has a good train service to Dublin and is the only way to commute.

If your husband's a masochist there's also a frequent bus service or if he likes traffic there's the N11.

Gorey is far and away the best shopping town in Wicklow or Wexford, and there's a good choice of pubs (French's on Main Street) should not be missed. There's a strong C of I community in the town and their Primary school http://www.goreycentral.com/ comes well recommended.

I'm not sure about C of I Secondary schools and the nearest may be the East Glendalough School http://www.egs.ie in Wicklow town but that's a thirty minute drive.

Another plus for Gorey is that there would be no language barrier for anyone moving down from Dublin

Craanford, Gorey is a lovely rural location with some lovely local forest and hill walks.
Only 10 minute drive to Gorey town or 10 minute drive to Carnew.
All Saints National School, Carnew COI is a well liked school.
Lots of activities in the Gorey/Carnew area for kids.

With your husband only having to travel to Dublin City three days a week, it would be well worth the commute.
If his hours are normal ie. 8-6, I would most deffinetely get the train with the option of a bus second.

    Best of luck.
