Has anybody heard any more on this?
Last night around midnight the place was up in flames, I have heard allegedly what happened.
Owner is obviously devastated. That is probably an understatement, but her business that she has worked very hard on for the past few years, gone in an hour.
Even if the insurance pays out, it will be months before the Pharmacy is back open again, after standing her corner while bigger competition came in, i feel so sorry for them.
I was also told that there is nothing salvageable. The place has been burned to the ground. :(:(

Ah that explains why the Gardai were outside it this morning at around 7am when I cycled by it. (I didn't notice that it had been burned.:o)

    Hopefully they catch the culprits

I think they already know what happened and who is responsible. The Gardaí were called to the scene or nearby earlier in the night for another fire. I am not 100% as i am hearing it 3rd hand, but i believe some people were caught at the scene.

I'm in this village once a month on a visit and as an outsider I can say that I have been alarmed at the behaviour of both juveniles/teenagers and that of their parents when the latter are called to book about the nonsense their brats get up to. The problem, as ever, starts in the home. Donabate kids are borderline FERAL and I make no apology for stating this!

Those Guards in Swords need to get out on the beat in Donabate more often. The place is turning into the Wild West!

This is awful news. My heart goes out to the owner. It is also worrying for anyone thinking of moving to the area. I note the comment 're the wild west..is it really that bad??

There are squadrons of children - note 'children'  - roaming the streets up there and the lip and language one gets of them (I'm talking 9-12 year olds) is beyond belief. I hear of homes being targeted by groups of them, throwing stones at windows and paint being thrown over cars, though I am more convinced that the latter is an adult's work. Chastising these brats will often bring an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed parent to your door.......and there one sees the problem laid bare right in front of you.

I have lived there for two years and hear more about it than I see it

But we live a bit out from the village and wouldn't socialise there. I still think its a great place to live despite this ****e going on, we have great neighbors etc in our estate. There are scumbags in all areas and villages in Ireland

My bigger worry would be the attitude of FCC to the area, as they seem to just want to dump more and more people there without any thoughts on infrastructure. Tomorrows train strike would be an example, with many stranded due to regular bus running to Dublin (as well as everytime an event takes place in Newbridge). There answer seems to be more housing which might ruin a fantastic village.

As a few have said its up to the parents to to sort this out, but it seems this wont happen when there are no consequences for any of it (even at a personal level as all are afraid of naming anyone).

Bang on..Lovely area. Huge potential to develop it in a sensitive way given it's natural beauty and rural character. It only feels to me to be finding it's feet with such a young population after the initial waves of development. Unfortunately, FCC seem intent on using it as a dumping ground for badly planned and rushed development. Real shame. I just hope the local community and elected officials are able to limit some of the damage. Otherwise we are going to have peninsula packed full of young families with not enough schools or childcare facilities, really bad traffic and a train service that the working parents won't be able to avail of during rush hour as it's jammers as it is.
