Ya got my result today, got oom in 20's so happy enough. How long is this panel for? Is it 1 or 2 years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Hydration

Congratulations, you will definitely be called with that OOM. I am not sure how long the panel is for, but I am going to guess a year. I checked the booklet but it does not say.

I'm on the infrastructure panel. Got placed in the Office of the Governments Chief Information Officer in Spencer Dock, currently going through the reference/garda checks. Anyone know what its like to work in the OOTGCIO?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

I got ranked at 47. Do you think I will be placed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

Does anyone have a copy of the booklet?

I would hope so as there are a lot of HEO / EO vacancies. It's just can PAS get through them on time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Hydration

Definitely, remember this is for the whole civil service not just one department.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 H.P. Baxxter

Obviously most departments are Dublin based, so most positions will become available there, but would anyone have any idea what departments would be likely to hire from this panel in Cork?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,296 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

CSO is the only org I can think of with IT staff in Cork, though I'm not sure if they draw from the panel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 H.P. Baxxter

The CSO had their own competition for the equivalent positions recently. Hopefully there's something, but I'm not terribly optimistic of the chances.

OGCIO are seen as the Head IT Dept for the Civil Service and bowed down to by many. Government Networks, Centralised Desktops/Laptops, Build to Share etc are all under OGCIO. Some of the IT elements do not follow best practice by any means, and it does always seem (in my dealings anyway) that sections are under resourced.

Your experience will broadly depend on your AP/PO, duties assigned and your ability to use your initiative/attitude.

If anybody gets called off the panel or receives any updates about the competition please update us all here. It would be good to keep each other updated. I suspect many of us will be called over the next few weeks.

Placed 17 on a panel today for the HEO ICT Infrastructure competition

Just a question about decorum around telling my boss that I got on the Panel. Hadn't really fully planned on moving or anything so didn't say that I was doing the interview.

Kind of unsure how to handle it diplomatically. EO presently but don't particularly want to move from where I am working. Only if the right offer comes along (Interest in the work and workplace culture ranks higher for me than the money). Should I say now that I got on the panel but it's not my intent to move or wait until I got a job offer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Hydration

Definitely wait until you get an offer and a starting date. Unfortunately you could be waiting awhile before your called although 17 is really good so should not be long.

I was placed 15 on the OOM for ICT HEO Infrastructure & Operations. Got an email this morning saying they’ll be in touch by end of next week about the next stage of the process. Is this verification of qualifications, Garda vetting & references?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭divide_by_zero

Worked there for two years was lucky enough to get placed on a software dev team. But did know a couple of new recruits who came in with a background in software development who ended up working admin. They left about a year later. Work was interesting but I guess that depends on what you find interesting.

Thanks for the info. When you say admin do you mean duties that a non-ict EO would do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭divide_by_zero

Yeah one was working non ICT admin stuff and another came in and was put on the project management team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

I emailed PAS today and they have reached 39 on the EO Dev panel

dont preclude the possibility of them finding a role for you at HEO in yr current place that might suit.

This depends on a few things, one of which is giving them time to do so

id let them know youve placed and might be looking to stay

Has anyone heard from the EO panel?

Any update regarding 2021 HEO ICT Cyber Security stream panel placements? Any one got any communication from PublicJobs regarding this stream or the 2021 HEO ICT Infrastructure stream?

The CSO draw from their own panels and also PAS panels. There is a quota for each.

    Hi,

I did an Interview this month for the Senior Digital Engagement Specialist in CS HEO role. Got placed 12th on OOM. This comp closed at beginning of January.

I was told they may be in touch in the future!

I have only worked in the Private sector, so not sure if there is a chance of getting a position, I'm also only able to take something in Athlone/Galway direction if offered.

Any idea if 12th is good enough.

    Thanks for any advice...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,296 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

I'd say the Galway/Athlone thing is likely to be a deal-breaker. I can't think of any significant ICT teams in those areas. Dept Education have some ICT folks in Tullamore I think, and Agriculture have significant resources in Portlaoise.

    Hi all,

I'm attending an Interview for the position of Networks and Cyber Security Specialists ICT Networks and Cyber Security Specialist in the Civil Service. Does anyone know the interview model and the type of questions they may ask? Any help/suggestions are highly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Dj

    Hi all,

Have a question relating to eo ict software development stream.

Do new entrants get trained into a specific area when they start?

Also are they working from home or in offices in general?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭fergald

Athlone has IT education now. You will get called. It just can be a bit slow.

    Hi all,

Once finished with PAS & assigned to a role/department what usually happens - Is there normally a long delay between being assigned and getting a start date & HR contacting you?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Hydration

How long on average are people from any of the ICT panels been waiting for Garda Vetting? I am waiting nearly two weeks so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭chrissb8

Mine took two weeks, give or take one or two days more. Would say you'll have it back soon enough.

Why is the pay for these roles so bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Hydration

    Hi All,

Is a pre-employment online Health Questionnaire normally required for ICT roles in the Civil Service?

Hi guys, has anyone waiting on their security clearance/garda vetting? I've got placed in AGS and I need to do extra security clearance. I lived abroad so I expected it to be long. Its already 10 weeks passed and no news from them... Has anyone had to wait (extra) long for their security clearane? Any info would be helpful...

Any idea when would be the next HEO ICT competition? How long would the current panel be active?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 i_am_online

HEO ICT Specialist advice: departments are crying out for technical people. My team and department rely on contractors to deliver technical projects which can mean you're expected to perform the role of vendor manager/project support. If you want a technical role, such as network/software engineer, you should have that clearly agreed before you start, managers change and they're generally interested in delivery over your role (learnt this the hard way). Unfortunately, when a civil servant hears the term 'HEO' they think you are a people manager, even though you came in under a technical specification. Otherwise, choose wisely... some departments are better than others so do your homework. If you know anyone in your network that does/has worked there(even if they're a friend of a friend), reach out as people are generally happy to share their experience (good or bad).

Create an alert on public jobs for ICT jobs and you'll be notified as soon as they become available. Also, follow publicjobs.ie on their social media where they'll share competitions.

    Good luck!

Got an email this morning to say I'm on the panel for this (in the top 20) is it likely I'll get placed?

    Thanks in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭trigger26

Yes very good chance you get place if in top 20

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭giseva

Has anyone been successful in actually starting in one of these positions. I started the process in March 2023, placed on OOM and was considered for a position pending vetting. I submitted all info required in time, then more months of nothing. I was then contacted again to do the same. It's a crazy system if I'm honest. I understand the requirement to have numbers on a panel but I've never encountered an 11 month wait with still no official offer or otherwise!

Can't talk about these specific positions or the CS. But public recruitment in my experience often takes many many months.
