Grange's November 2017 summary

Very sunny and cold but wet.

Rainfall: Wettest November since 2015. More than 60% of the month's rainfall on the 22nd.
I recorded a rainfall total of 83.1mm for November 2017 which comes to 117% of my LTA and was my wettest November since 2015. What was shocking about this monthly total was that more than 60% of it was recorded on one day, the 22nd. I had a daily rainfall of 52.7mm on this day, my wettest November day since 2002 and wettest day for any month since October 2011. This was the only very wet day (days with 10mm or more) of the entire month. Like my second wettest day was the 10th with only 7.1mm. I had a total of 17 wet days (days with 0.1mm or more) during the month which is around average for November. My longest period without rainfall was the 1st-6th (6 days). Apart from the 22nd, there was nothing remarkable about rainfall for November 2017 here.

Temperature: Cold but not as cold as November 2016.
I recorded a mean temperature of 6.1c for November 2017 which comes to -1.5c below my average for November. Whilst being a cold month, it was not as cold as November 2016 which had a mean of only 5.1c, over a degree cooler than November 2017. My maximum temperature was 16.1c on the 1st, my warmest November day since 2015 and one of my warmest on record. I also had a maximum of 15.2c on the 21st, another one of my warmest November days on record. My minimum temperature was -3.5c on the 25th, slightly higher than November 2016's minimum of -3.8c. I had a total of 9 air frosts during November which is above my average of only 2-4 although again November 2016 had more with 14 air frosts. Meanwhile, my minimum of 12.4c on the 21st was one of my warmest November nights on record. My lowest maximum for November was 4.2c on the 25th, once again not as low as 20 November 2016's maximum of 1.6c. November 2017 was quite an interesting month for temperature but November 2016 overshadowed it in terms of cold.

Sunshine: Very sunny, second sunniest on record.
I recorded a sunshine total of 102 hours for November 2017 which comes to 134% of my LTA. This made it my second sunniest November on record behind only November 2016. November 2016 had 6 more hours of sunshine than November 2017. My sunniest day was the 5th with a daily sunshine total of 8.0 hours, my sunniest November day since 2011. I had a total of 10 very sunny days (days in November with 5 hours or more) during the month, only beaten by November 2010 which had 12. I had two completely dull days which is rather below average for November of 4-5.
