Question: have you guys PM'd Four with your backstories or something? Like has Four decided that Goodie is from Zassan or what? I assume so? And Tig will just run with it?

Necro did you just make up these places or are you taking it from the map?

I'm just so impressed by how much everyone is getting into this. My imagination is nowhere near as good as some of you. I am feeling overwhelmed. Lol.

If you're stuck, use the character traits from the random generator. How do you reconcile them, and the class and the stats? Group them together as complimentary and antagonistic groups and ask questions. Write the questions and answers down and keep going down rabbit holes till it makes you interested in the character or ready to throw them away.

Saw an interview with an author a few months ago who said he starts a new character with one statement, eg John Smith is a jerk. Thats all. So naturally you ask Why is he a jerk? Because he told me to go **** myself at Thanksgiving dinner. Why was he at your Thanksgiving dinner? Well his wife died and he's struggling to keep things going with work and his 2 kids and I wanted to help out. How did his wife died? What's his job? Tell me about the kids? Etc etc. Not ever character will be a Dean Moriarty or an Atticus Finch, but by the end they're also not a series of dice rolls.

This is excellent advice for anyone looking to get into D&D and create a character. Thanks Banjo!

Not like that! Wait, do spiders do that?...No way!
Spider Escorts are now a part of the world, you won't get that in Tolkien folks.

    What's metaplot?
The overarching plot. Some games have none, the plot is purely generated by the characters doing stuff, no GM made "story" going on.

I always like having one, I think the only problem is when the players have to stick to it.

Sorry, I've started talking about sperm webs again. I accidentally found out how spiders reproduce a few weeks ago and it's on my mind every time I go in my shed and brush a cobweb.

Don't take it as a criticism, Tolkien didn't have the guts for that kind of honest portrayal of the spider underworld.

Yeah just tell me. It's one of the best potions in the game at low levels.

For my new character the generator as well as giving stats gives some background and traits. The background was that I am fond of boats. I latched onto this and created the son of a ferryman. I ran with this making my dad the owner of a ferry company thus rich enough to have me educated.

I mentioned in the backstory that I currently work in a tavern.
Fourier took this and blended it into the storyline where he needed me to be. The tavern is now mobile and I'm on the way to meet with you soon enough.

It is soooooo tempting to take on the part of NCPs occasionally. For example Kal has just given a guard a ****eating grin. I really want to take control of the guard make him give Kal a slap on the head in passing for being cheeky. :)

i laughed so hard at brushing the molars with the two handed toothbrush! classic!

This is a while off, if I run two games they'll need to mind-machine interface me to boards to keep up, but the next game will either be the big Sci-Fi RPG, Traveller (to compliment D&D's fantasy) or Vampire the Masquerade.

Kinda wanna try Vampire: the Masquerade but I do not mind any of them :D

Sorry, I read it back to check for spelling and... Yeah I'm a little embarrassed. And proud. Is the penthouse letters page still a thing?

I was worried that didn't work, that I was being too subtle :)

    Bed!

I won't be doing late nights for a while to catch up on sleep, until we get to a high action part again. We'll arrange it this time. I might also time things so that the high action starts at 19.00 or 20.00, so we get a long go at it.

This early part of the Act will go a bit slow, just so I can iron out stuff.

    Updated map tomorrow.

Thinking that Act 2 part 1 should come with a nudity warning.

Dunno where this nudist thing is coming from. Why would someone who has been locked in a cell for 3 months beside a magma chamber ever bother wearing clothes? Who's looking at him? It's only logical.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Nudism is like the 'Ra, doesn't matter how or why you got started down that path, once in never out.

On the bright side since both of the new characters whipped their kits off on day 1 Fourier is obliged to develop sub-class abilities for characters with the Nudist trait and a suitable side quest for you to explore it. I guess we're going to get more than we bargained for when we land on the beach at Ekbard's island ..

Yeah RoboBandy, I’m surprised leading with “lots of my party died, you’re the replacement” worked for you!

Now, get your new protege wearing a kilt, stat!

Hey, I gave him money and got him out of a cell. I'm surprised they're not asking why the only appendages I have left that aren't metal are my head or covered up!!

I guess anyone coming to free you after three months in a magma cell is appealing, no matter the peril!

I think even a Robodwarf smelled nicer than that cell did! Kal woudl've probably even went along if Othergre had come to free him.

Even? Even?? She's a very charming girl who just happens to have a slightly pornographic attitude towards other people's arteries. I'd say any prisoner would be delighted to meet her. Especially one with a strong constitution that's susceptible to charm magicks... hmmm i wonder...

That's just how the dwarves see it, not necessarily what Kal is actually like. They're a "private" people.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was playing up to referencing the 'dangly bits.' Bandylegs is very conservative when it comes to his mostly metal body:pac::pac:

And the conundrum of how to fix Robodwarf has been resolved. My new retainer will not be fighting unless absolutely required.
