    As for the next game.....

    Deadlands

    OR

    Vampire the Masquerade

Would be my choices. Happy to go with others... but we can play D&D in the future again right?

    *sniffs*

D&D again definitely at some point, perhaps the same world a few hundred years later.

I think the fourth wall took more damage than Soet in that last scene! :pac:

Oh doesn't matter at all, better way to send the game off, in the tone we'd played throughout. Glad Xanthea popped in.

hall of fame update to correct the record! nice.

You see, Traveller looks ok to me but I'm not a huge sci fi buff... plus... non heroic... bit of a con for me tbh.

I don't think Banjo would survive 5 minutes in Vampire the Masquerade though!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,535 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Also, where the hell am I meant to get my epic speeches out now that Bandy is retired!

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

To be explicit with those two.

Traveller is Cowboy Bebop, Alien, Outland, Red Mars, Sunshine type sci-fi. Not Ian Banks, Star Wars or Star Trek. That is real people in space in the future, not blasters and time travel and energy beings. (I like the latter too, just setting the tone) On low tech worlds energy rifles require a large battery backpack.

Vampire, yep say "Up yours" or "relax moron" to an elder and your character is dead. Vampires above you in the power scale are dangerous and require plots that take a while, involving human law enforcement, gangs, subtle use of powers, manipulation, etc to take out, all while being polite in public.

Really... REALLY like the sound of Vampire to be totally honest. Seems like my kind of game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Well, I am off for the night. Catch up in the morning.

Added a few more people to that summary post and will be adding more as I scan over the threads.

Powered by the Apocalypse: the original, postapocalyptic
Dungeon World: D&D redone in Apocalypse world style.
The Ward: You play a doctor in an ER. This game won awards.
Urban Shadows: You play supernatural creatures living in the modern world trying to survive by pretending to be CEOs etc. Very good.

Also would have a preference for above Apoc games.

Dungeon World being a top choice with Urban Shadows slightly behind.

I'll basically try most of them though :D

Red mars, yeah dynamic social anarchism.

...who do you think the elder vampire you're not supposed to piss off is, exactly?
    Mwahahahahaahahaha

But yeah, unless I went Gangrel or maybe Nosferatu, I wouldn't live 5 minutes past my Embrace...

Personally, as appealing as V:TM is and as much as I loved the game (and the material I've been reading since December) I'm not cut out for political and social machinations, I think I'd lean towards Deadlands or Traveller based purely on the descriptions above.

    Okay plans ahoy!!!!

So for slow paced games, the following Powered by the Apocalypse games will be on offer (I've pmed a few about this):
Powered by the Apocalypse: the original, postapocalyptic
Alas for the Awful Sea: Life on a rough island in the 19th century where somebody is murdered. It's a period drama basically
The Veil: Set in a future where humanity is fusing with machines.
Dungeon World: D&D redone in Apocalypse world style.
The Sprawl: Bladerunner themed heist game.
The Ward: You play a doctor in an ER. This game won awards.
Urban Shadows: You play supernatural creatures living in the modern world trying to survive by pretending to be CEOs etc. Very good.
    Masks: You play young superheroes

Apocalypse world games basically work by you rolling 2d6 adding some stat (like investigation), <7 is a failure, 7-10 a success with complications and >10 a good success.

You decide the type of success and the complications from a list of options and I have to come up with something fitting the current story and those options. This way the players have control over the story to a bigger degree.

The options depend on your class and the skill.

Unsure if I'm ready to dip back in here but if I were to play, I like the sound of Urban Shadows of Masks. :p

Also my first foray into the RP world was Vampire, myself and Mr Molly joined a group half way through a game and I was so confused and overwhelmed and terrified. :D

Thanks Four for giving Xanthea a chance at life. Booooo Four/the dice gods for giving her an untimely death.

Deadlands seems to be winning, with Traveller a close second.

    Necro's suitability for Vampire though....hmmmm....

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Just went through a Traveller character generation.
    Jesus christ, it's brutal.
It's far too much like real life in it's cycle of disappointment, dangling carrots and crushed dreams. "What career would you like? Really? YOU FAILED! You are a bum. And you failed at that too. And now you have a limp. What career would you like now? YOU FAILED! etc. etc."
Lena Jarg is now a 34 year old aspiring scout, failed scavenger and former draftee in the navy who's been bankrupt twice. At least it makes you look forward to your own actual life :D

Really? Interesting... must do some more digging on the game.

    Am I that depressing/scary? :pac:

We haven't seen discretion being used much by your characters :D

can you do 'blend in' ?

Who knows? Seems like fun whilst being a challenge. I very much enjoyed the early days of D&D where one blow could have killed the character.

The lethality is a massive part of the draw for me. Bandylegs became more and more outspoken the longer he lived.

From my gathering of Vampire, that level of bravado would have his throat slit probably around the time Ekbard tried to lop off a devil horn (Level 1, so long ago but HOW did any of us survive that?)

Our DM made it so the ride could not fail :D strenght check + 4 for a character with 16 strenght ;)
