    Interesting, but hard to see how it's going to work in practice. They specifically make mention of the "hierarchy of competitions from national through to area and up to global events, allowing them to follow a logical season-long path to the pinnacle of Athletics top two competitions". Does that mean a new emphasis on national level competitions? Might penalise athletes who concentrate on the likes of the Diamond League. Not to mention, in light of our own little fiasco in the last few days, a need for standardisation of eligibility for national championships.

    Would imagine that it would adopt a more tennis like approach which wouldn't take away from Diamond League but rather offer a pathway from National level to the top of the sport.

    Interesting to see the exact details but I do think this is a good move if done properly, it's something which has been mentioned both here and elsewhere and could be a step towards rewarding true racing outside of championships to have a bit more cohesion between Grand Prix and championship style races

    This would be brilliant, finally get to see the best athlete's at Olympics and world championships.

    Always found the system was unfair in that a person in Ireland could run the qualifying time and are sure of an Olympic spot, but a person in the USA could run a WR that year and still not make the worlds or Olympics.

    It will also mean the finals will really be the top 8 of the world.

    ?? They aren't changing the rules on how many athletes from each country can go to the Olympics/World championships ??

    They're saying that instead of running a particular time* to qualify, you have to get a particular rank to qualify, and rank depends on your time but also where you come in races, and which races

    * distance, height, etc

    Don't think that will change it's still up to selection of the federations (meaning still US trials etc) I think it will more mean that rather than Q time (which US state as minimum to qualify for their trials) the top X will be invited providing they are eligible (not sure if quota system will go so prob won't change that)

    Just speculation at the moment though till the release the finer details
