I called into Gowan Motors on the Navan Road today to take a look at the Honda CRV and the Peugeot 3008. It was the most bizarre experience ever.

The Peugeot Rep was helpful but made it clear that I'd really only get into a fairly base 1.6 model of the 3008. I was told I'd need to be buying two cars to avail of fleet discount irrelevant that my company has over 100+ cars. He was a nice guy but i felt very restricted in what he could do. Was very impressed with the 3008 - Check it out guys...

Then I went up to the Honda side of the dealership. I tried to speak to the rep in there, an older gentleman that will remain nameless. All I can say is that I have never been treated as badly in a showroom. I was told that if I wanted to look at the CR-V I'd have to pay full RRP. He clearly stated that there was no fleet discount and no discount available even though I was a straight cash buyer. He told me several times I was in the wrong showroom and that Honda was not for the masses... What am I missing guys? Do you need an invitation from Honda directly to buy one of their vehicles? Terrible experience from the Honda side of the garage...

I’ve found the same experience with that Honda garage, it wasn’t the lack of discount that had me drive quickly away but the refusal of the salesman to engage. I guess they focus on repeat business with the local customers. I guess you won’t get any change out of 40k in the road for a CR-V?

Honda are doing a cash back promotion at the minute which leaves the base CR-V "SE" model coming in at a few €€€ under the €30K mark. That Gown motors garage is a very funny set up....

Gowan Honda are a shower. Not that I've ever bought new, but the odd job I needed doing on the Civic, Cranley Cars on the Naas Road were much, much better to work with.

The CRV is being replaced with a new model in the first half of next year.

They haven’t stopped building them, they’ve stopped selling them in Ireland though. That is a damn shame.

The 10th generation Accord is lovely. I think the 1.5T 184bhp petrol would sell extremely well here.

Actually the European Honda Accord was sold as the Acura TSX in the US. That has since been replaced by the TLX. The US Accord is a different car altogether.

I have to say I think the CX-5 is the best looking SUV in its class with a very classy interior. Best of luck with it. Did you order any extra's for it?

I think red could be a popular colour next year. The Dad has has bought a new car next year too. He is hoping to get it in the first week. He has gone for red as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

No extras at all - Budget was completely blown getting into an SE Exec model. In fairness they are not badly kitted out. Could do with apple play though

Took one off the road this year after 18 months of a 3 year lease as it spent around 16 weeks altogether in the garage due to issues, and previously we had one off the road for 107 consecutive days.

Even if it's leased and someone else is looking after it, you'll soon get fed up driving rental cars instead of the Mazda.

is the CX5 problematic v's the Mazda 6. I've put almost 150K on the 6 in a very short period of time and it never missed a beat...

You've been very lucky then as our experience is that they are just as bad as each other. More failures on the 6 simply because we had more of them on the road.
