    Exciting times ahead for Xbox and console gaming, going to have to splash out and get a nice 4k monitor for it. Overdue an upgrade also ;)

    Backwards compatibility is no longer that big a deal to implement since it’s running on the x86 platform. Another advantage of it when they moved to it for Xbox one.
    I’m glad they’re not concentrating on VR either, just a straight up gaming console.

    Yeah but its worrying that it cant support VR, as in it's not capable. If it was capable it would happen, even if xbox/MS aren't focussed on it if the machine was capable they would just say to 3rd party devs, off you go knock yourselves out.

    Id say they're shy of it following the kinect debacle, a good few studios got burned with half finished projects when the device was dropped.
    Plus, its a big risk to put out a head set and then have it compared to the PC & sony equivalents. No doubt someone has crunched the numbers and its been deemed too much of an investment risk.

    same, I've tried it once or twice, and outside of a few titles,and outside of something like RE7 or Moss, I couldnt see myself ever wanting to invest in it.

    I found that the best VR games are ones that don't require amazing graphics at all, it's all art direction. Take a look at Super Hot, Beat Saber, or Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, some of the best VR games going, and they don't require a major graphics power house at all.

    Eventually someone is going to make a self contained headset/controller set that's powerful enough to run these games and is cheap enough to be a purchase that people don't even have to think about much, and then it'll take off massively, but never to the point of replacing consoles.

    Of course, Half Life: Alyx might change my perception....

    It sounds like it could be HDR related, sometimes my tv doesn't pick up HDR content and some stuff looks dark as a result. Perhaps turn HDR off in the Xbox settings, see if that makes any difference?

    Where do you put that thing?

    Its not your classic VCR type shape audio\visual equipment. It looks as big as an amp\reciever.

    I've a nice neat setup finally and then the annoucne that damn thing with that shape, it would have to go on the floor.

    It's designed to go vertical or horizontal. Are there dimensions mentioned anywhere? Wonder what size we're talking here.

    Maybe the size is deceptive as it looks very big. Even horizontal its going to be awkward I think.

    EDIT: I came up with the same for height but using the remote as a guide...

    Looks to be about 25cm tall and 15cm square if the remote hasn't changed in size.
    I gotta admit, I don't like it. I think it'd look crap on it's side and I'll have a hard time fitting it in standing up anywhere

It looks to be a top mounted fan, the divot at the top is just going to be a dust collector of the worst kind because with the massive holes cleaning even surface dust will fall in. Then when turn on will eventually fall back on top, which will probably make for people placing it horizontally which would look terrible in any open space. All that white space (black actually) on the front panel would have been a nice handy space for LCD info such as temperatures, clock speed, FPS, time / weather even etc.

    Man that's moany :-) take a look at the pc market, you mostly get bland rectangular chassis. Yes there are some cool cases but that not going to happen in a console unless you want to pay €800 for it.

    And yes they get dusty...
