Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Huh? The first goal should be awarded to him. It was a shot that was on its way in and a defender tried to block it.

Only seen it once, thought it was curling away from the goals,my bad so

You'd get sick of the whole declan rice debacle but he liked a comment on Instagram yesterday saying "Future Ireland captain".

I'm sure he has to already know what hes going to do, just announce it already!

Anyone know if the venue for Gibraltar away has been confirmed? Saw talk of Faro but dunno is that just speculation. Not long now to go you'd think for away fans it would be confirmed by now..

It'll only mean anything if Rice retweets it. Obafemi confirmed it himeslf by posting a pic of himself in the Ireland jersey #allin or something which clearly put his colours to the mast.

Or better yet a FAI press release

Yeah Ireland international and underage and 3 friendly appearances doesn't quite have the same ring to it! It's interesting that it's the new jersey.

Suppose could be viewed as social media 'banter' but would seem a silly thing to do if he was still deciding.

The speculation is fairly repetitive at this stage. I'm not sure what a difference a few weeks will make. Has sorted his contract with West Ham too. Euro qualifiers coming up around the corner so surely will be announced by next month at latest.

I mean yeah, but if they don’t chase him and he ends up declaring for England and has a great career, you’ll have a large number of people planning them for not doing enough to get him in, so you can’t really win.

It looks bad IMO if they do it for Rice and not Brady

Why would the FAI need to be tweeting birthday wishes to players anyway?
    They're not children.
    Very childish stuff altogether.

Well if they can't tag him in the tweet it's kind of pointless to wish him happy birthday isn't it? Since he wouldn'e even see it

See it a fair bit with PL clubs. Just part of social media/brand promotion etc. But yeah this one does seem like a fishing exercise..

Was listening to RTE there, they think it will be in the next few days. Apparently they contacted FAI too and spokesperson said something along lines of ''can't even wish anyone happy birthday these days without comment..''. But as others said nothing for Brady who's actually declared for us showed up for big games. They know what they're at with this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Christy Browne

They wished him a Happy Birthday on Facebook, crisis over lads

I find it hard to believe that this is just an incidental happy birthday tweet.

Rice supposedly about to make an imminent decision, and the FAI post a "here-is-Declan-Rice-wearing-an-ireland-jersey" tweet.

Potentially making a fool of themselves for a few clicks? If so, maybe they're just beyond embarrassment at this stage.

At the very least when he doesn't declare for us could it be used as some way of getting Delaney out? :pac:

Gonna be a serious **** storm when rice declares for England as is logical for anyone of his background.

Troy parrot has a great chance of playing for Tottenham with Son in the UAE and Kane seemingly injured.

Terrible bull**** article in the sindo running down Niall Quinn putting his thoughts out there about improving soccer in this country. Had some good suggestions and some pie in the sky ones but it deserves mature debate rather than the crap in the sindo.

Rice has played underage with Ireland and the 3 friendlies, I think is loyalty is closer to Ireland. Maybe money-wise and chances of better success might sway him to England team but I think he could declare for us.

To be fair, it’s a funny tweet. Gets people talking, waiting around for Rice to like it etc.

The fact Jeff Hendrick replied to it as well is funny.

Parrott is a long way off getting game time for Spurs. He might get bench time but I can't see Poch resting his hopes on a 16 year old.
Llorente getting game time or one of the midfielders as a false 9 would seem more logical.

As for Eamon Sweeneys article, he was bang on in his comments. Quinn's looking for airtime for himself. Sadlier did the same thing when he was trying to get started in punditry.

Champion the much maligned league of Ireland with big ideas and come out looking like the great fella. I didn't see one useful workable idea in Quinn's suggestions. It was more of the same waffle he was talking last year about selling LOI TV rights to African TV companies.

Harps are the bones of 20 years trying to get a stand in their new ground built and its going to be at least 5 more years before they'll have it finished. The likes of Limerick and Bray are/were ran by ego maniacs who were more interested in instant gratification than growing support for their clubs in their communities.

Those are the bread and butter issues in the league. Not selling LOI TV rights in Zanzibar and hustling E40 million from "tax breaks" so Cobh Ramblers can build a E2 million academy when alot of clubs don't even have secured access to a training ground.

I like Niall Quinn, charismatic, had some decent runs of form as a player.

Not sure he's the white knight for the game here though, given that he had Irish people pumping millions into a club in NE England at one stage. When Irish kids were all wearing Boylesports jerseys and being brought to the Stadium of Light, he wasn't too worried about Irish clubs.

So if Quinn, someone accustomed to Irish soccer, and administrative and business background has any opinions, good, bad or indifferent he will automatically be seen as "being looking for airtime " if he relays them now?

Sweeney obviously has beef with Quinn. It was an extremely ott personal attack designed as a critique of his proposals

On a side note Sweeney reminds me of Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys!

I doubt Sweeney has any "beef" with Quinn.
He's one one of the few sports journalists I've any time for, along with Daniel McDonnell.

People keep taking about Quinn like he's Warren Buffet and David Gill all rolled into one. He was chairman of Sunderland when the new owners needed a familiar face to get the fans onside.
That was all of a 7 years ago, what has he done in football since? Is he or has he been head hunted by any of the 44 clubs in the top two tiers of English football?

As for his "business" background. I wouldn't call Q Sat a particularly successful venture.

Quinn is trying to make a name for himself in punditry. Discussions like this one help him achieve that. I have no doubt in a few months he'll come out with an even more outlandish idea that will top selling LOI TV rights to Africa or getting a E40 million tax break. And the papers will duely do him a favour by printing it.

Quinns proposals for the league came across as someone who genuinely had no knowledge of the league for the past 10 years. Now I'm sure he has, but almost all of it was pie in the sky stuff. He came across like someone who had vaguely heard all the bad headlines about the league, about facilities etc and just came up with 'make this all better by doing this unrealistic thing'

On the Rice thing, I can only imagine he's declared now because they really wouldn't do something like that right?..........right?
