    Poor abuse received by McClean.

But his idea to give abuse back is dumb & immature.

Why go down to their level?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭pgj2015

not sure why mcclean would pass any heed on these idiots, just use their abuse as fuel to play well and score against their team. do you think the likes of roy keane would give a toss about some low IQ apes like them giving him abuse when he was playing? would he fcuk.

let the FA do their job and if they don't, just get on with playing football. its not like mcclean is 18 or something, he should have more cop on to take the bait from jeremy kyle guests.

The FA aren't doing their job, McClean gets this abuse at every ground he goes to but nothing has been done to stop it.

If he was getting this abuse for the colour of his skin rather than being Irish the FA would have cracked down and the media would be all over it.

Hopefully he doesn't follow through on giving abuse back as he will be the one getting the sanctions again.

Not only is Rice winning the award he wasn’t at the dinner which was recorded last night, ‘highlights’ of which will be shown on RTÉ embarrassing all round.

To be fair, it was voted by the Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland like every other year.

Sure Grealish won the u21 award 4 years ago too.

Never let the facts get in the way of good Delaney abuse.

ignoring these people is the best way to deal with them, they are looking for a reaction from mcclean and he is giving it to them.

I think it would be embarrassing enough to have a man on the verge of his England debut there collecting an award. Can't imagine a lot would want to see him nor can't imagine he would want to be there either.

So the clown couldn't have said to give it to whoever came 2nd instead, to avoid yet another shi*tstorm? Of course not, they don't pay him enough to make big decisions like that.

I genuinely think theres a chance someone in the FAI thought this would cause more embarrassment to Rice than the FAI and got it badly wrong.

Idiotic to give him the award in any case.

Sounds like a plan our jolly leader and his hench men would come up with. The same way they take flags and banners away from fans to prevent public frustrations being shared.

And if he did the likes of yourself would be the first here complaining that he is over stepping the mark and getting involved with something he shouldn't.

If the voting is independent of the FAI, as it should be, then this proves it.

UUP politician Chris McGimpsey said it.

He's 22 now so too old. There has to be more to this Ryan Nolan thing. Captains Inter's reserve side and has been in matchday squads but can't make our U21's

Hopefully one of our best and brightest journalists brings him up at the press conference....

Overage, Cullen will be 23 next. The first of January 1998 is the cut off point for this under 21s campaign.

Think the biggest talking point about this squad is not who didn't make it but the 19s who have three important games coming up in Russia have now lost four of their starting team in Adam Idah, Tory Parrot, Conor Coventry and captain Lee O'Connor.

If they're good enough to be playing U21 they should be playing U21 imo. They're only development squads for the senior team at the end of the day.

Some common sense could be used when you consider the U21s have just the one game this month. While they might be only development squads I think the chance of qualifying for a major tournament at youth level (which is great for development) is vital given our lack of teams that ever qualify. We've also got the Toulon tournment in the summer which gives you the perfect chance to take as many players from this 19s team you want away for the tournament to have a better look at them when you've got plenty of time to work together and integrate them into your squad then.

Nolan (Overage for 19s) for O'Connor, Johansson (can't play with the 19s until next season) for Coventry, Idah and Parrot for any of Cassidy, Afolabi or McAuley who'd even be all better call ups than the Goonies lookalike Michael O'Connor that somehow got called up

Probably a good chance he'll be with the 19s and replacing Coventry who was called up to the 21s. Plays full back for the 19s but would have been a big blow for the 19s to lose both Coventry and Connoll (assuming Connoll will play with the 19s and replace Coventry).

    Overage for the 19s

Nasty freak accident for Ronan Curtis, losing the top of his finger. He might now miss Ireland's qualifying games.
Republic of Ireland international forward Ronan Curtis has chopped the top off his finger in a freak accident and is now set to be ruled out of the European Championship qualifiers against Georgia and Gibraltar.

Curtis got his finger caught in a door at his Southsea home when it was slammed shut by a gust of wind on Tuesday morning as he prepared to travel to meet up with his Portsmouth team-mates for the match at Walsall.

The former Derry City forward has had plastic surgery to reattach the top of his finger but a swift return to action looks unlikely with Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett casting doubt on whether he will be fit for their Checkatrade Trophy Final against Sunderland at Wembley on March 31.

Jackett said: "Ronan trapped his finger in the door, it is quite serious and needed surgery to stitch it back on.

"It happened at home. It was windy down in Portsmouth believe it or not and the wind caught the door as he was leaving his house to meet up with us.

"According to his mum, the top of the finger was hanging off and they sewed it back on with plastic surgery.

"It was 9am when I got the call, just when we were ready to leave, although he was okay by this afternoon.

"How long he’ll be out for is a really difficult one to say. I will be surprised if he plays on Saturday, very surprised, beyond that it’s hard to call.

"He will again see a specialist and plastic surgeon on Friday again and we will go off what he says.

"It was quite a nasty one, but I would be guessing if I gave you any information about whether he will be available for Wembley."

For any Cork members that may be interested, there's a FAI exhibition in St Peters Gallery on North Main St until 24th of March. Popped in today, really well done with old memorabilia, jerseys etc .

Either he is in the U19 squad (he will be 18 next month) or he is jumping ship.

As said, Nolan is overage for U19 level. Bit of a joke that the Inter Milan youth team captain who has been involved with the Inter Milan first team squad cannot get in the Irish U21 squad but someone who is on and off the Ipswich reserve team can ie. Barry Cotter.

Technically he was an English player first, FAI didn't know about him until after he got called up and played with England first.

Different positions, Cotter is a RB and Nolan a CB.

Nolan is up against O'Connor, Masterson and O'Shea in the squad named.

O'Connor and Masterson are probably on the same level as Nolan if not ahead of him. Masterson has been involved with the first team squad in PL and CL last season while O'Connor is/was our U19s captain as well as Uniteds youth captain AND he was in MONs last senior squad.

While O'Shea is out on loan playing first team football week in/out.

I think too many people are reading into the Nolan exclusion, has anyone actually seen him play? Or are they just going by the fact hes at Inter so he has to be good? Much like Johansson at Bayern.

    I trust Kennys judgement here.

I have seen Nolan in the UEFA Youth league, he didnt look good tbh. I dont think hes a great prospect at all. Liam Scales at UCD for me is much better, quicker stronger and better on the ball. He has played well in the LOI Premier this season too so more far ahead than Nolan. The Italian youth leagues are much weaker than England also

Fully agree. The Championship season ends on the 5th of May, a full month before June's qualifers. The lads only waiting for promotion, see if he hits the ground running and gets a call from England.

This whole “pursuing” of players is becoming a complete farce.

Ask them once, and if the answer isn’t a resounding yes, they shouldn’t be asked ever again. Leave them come crawling if they change their mind and want to play for us.
