Well, I wasn’t trying to stop people posting either. I will point out that I think people are daft for falling for the clickbait. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

You will also blame mods for not defending her points.

I don't get how some people say she is a nobody with no influence. She writes for a national newspaper and appears here and there on other media such as radio and TV.

Being a journalist she helps people form opinions and can steer opinion in one direction or another. I don't think for instance she is a good influence on young people, either male or female.

I'm not saying she is "dangerous" but her views can often go unchallenged by her peers, someone may as well call her out even if it is just a thread on Boards.ie.

Would you like to elaborate? I never said anyone had to defend LON’s output.

In the past day, freshpopcorn pointed out the newness of an account of a poster who was not posting the way most people in the thread were posting. Now, that’s something that forum members aren’t supposed to do and I’ve seen infractions handed out for same. When a mod does something like that, it makes me wonder. Then a few posts up, tells me to let people discuss her. As of last night, I had 22 posts in a 700+ post thread. I have a lot more now for good reason. But 22 posts in such a large thread is not much, especially as they are probably bunched together into little groups meaning probably days or weeks passed between groups of postings. My contributins here would be doing well to be stifling.

Well, I don’t think her views shouldn’t be challenged. But this thread veers towards obsessive.

Someone mentioned David Quinn on this thread. I’ve read a small numbers of his articles down the years, enough to form an opinion. I find him odious. But, you know, I just accept that some journalists are going to express views that are diametrically opposite to mine. And he’s a national journalist too but I’m not worried about his influence. I’m sure he has his followers. So does LON. But give the general populace a little credit here. Her influence will not spread far and wide.

I disagree with David Quinn on some stuff but I do respect he backs up why he has his opinion and has no problem going on panel or debate shows and arguing his point.

Yeah, look, I’m not saying they are comparable in all ways, I’m just saying that being a national journalist with more extreme views doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a huge influence. If anything, I’d say LON isn’t challenged much by her peers because she makes herself look ridiculous all by herself. She seems pretty good at that.

She's popped up in a few podcasts by same thinking people, the likes of McSharry and co.
One podcast is even on RTE's website.

It's a tad disheartening to see such propaganda promoted by RTE. But what can I expect, their entire entertainment section has become backwards thinking third wave feminism.

Yeah, it's interesting how LON doesn't do interviews-Tommy Tiernan didn't know who she was, and yet deconstructed and disproved her argument within 15 minutes. Any time she's challenged, her argument falls apart. Twitter and insta don't prep people like her for anything.
    They can't mute or block.

Well, as you’ve accused me of liking LON, I’m responding. I am never embarrassed to say who I support or follow. If I liked her, I would say. In addition, I’m an egalitarian, not a feminist. So... yeah.

Try and engage with people without making unfounded insinuations (or outright accusations) about their character. Give it a go. For the craic like.

Louise is not an expert on Feminism. She has not studied feminism so we cannot expect her to opine like true PhD holding feminists with a deep knowledge and insight of the subject.

She admits her real introduction to feminism came from her meetings with her Psychiatrist in New York when she was battling her eating disorder.

I read the article and felt sympathy for her. She is battling several demons it seems. Eating disorder, confidence issues and self-esteem issues as well.

Could it be just a soft-soap interview? Possibly. But I do think that she is a fragile and damaged individual.

Not really. But it's handy way to put some distance between myself and some of the contributors in this thread. It's a lot less embarrassing to get behind her than to be on the same side as salt of the earth brigade who feel threatened by one fairly fragile woman.

She is out there to get you. Be afraid, be very afraid. :D

Nobody is threatened by her or terrified for that matter.

Who is worse here. The people criticizing her bat shiit crazy ideas of feminism or the people giving a platform to this very fairly fragile woman to speak upon knowing full well she will be criticized for it?

To say people feel threatened by her is a bit extreme.
I actually feel sorry for the woman with the issues she's had in her past.
My only concern would be some of her famous saying that all young woman should read/watch asking for it and that all parents should buy it.
Her chat with the barrister on the program was laughable and I don't think this is the correct way to go forward in the world and to help to get proper talks on consent in schools.

Does she personify the spoilt, soft, Westerner? So incapable of dealing with hardship that she needs an army of therapists and 'wellness' experts to keep going?

Jaysus....wow. No wonder she lives at home. God.
The eating disorder therapist I understand, she's been open about her bulimia/ anorexia. A nutritionist is pointless, get a dietician. The rest...all of that is a waste of money. Acupuncture? Reflexology? 'Alternative therapy'? Even a massage is debatable.

That's seriously a mollycoddled individual. With more money than logic.

Can’t speak for anyone else but I’m certainly not threatened by her :pac:

I don't see what she spends her money on as being something worthy of discussion. If it makes her feel better and helps her to deal with her demons, let her at it. It's her money, not the taxpayers.

If a male writer I disagree with spends all his cash on XboX games or craft beers, I'm not going to assume he's a man-child with an issue with alcohol who can't afford to move from his mothers spare room etc., etc.

Not an LON fan, btw. Just find how low and personal this thread has gotten to be a bit much, even by AH standards lately.

Honestly dont know why she is telling us as if we gave a flying fúck what she does in her spare time.

Her holistic dedication is doing her no good anyway she is still an idiot with a chip on her shoulder (or two even). She is a virtue signaller but ironically is completely morally bankrupt whether she realises it or not.

So? Her male counterparts get far worse. Welcome to equality.

From relatively early on in her life, O’Neill says she had the ability to imagine something and for it then to happen, a specific experience at summer camp, for example.

Well we wouldn't know any of these personal details about her life if she didn't stop mentioning them. In fairness this is the woman who used her own article in the Examiner to announce that it was her birthday.

Well that would explain why she's still single, waiting around for Tupac "wokebae" Shakur to come back.

He can't be dead, true love never dies!
