Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    In your own opinion but they are certain people who have said this is how every young woman should be raised/beliefs should have etc.

    "Rape culture" is a meaningless, sensationalist leftist term. To seriously suggest that the ideas, customs, and social behavior of our society in Ireland has a "rape culture" is complete and utter nonsense.

    I think it would be more fair to say we have a "cake culture". Every time I am in town, I see cakes on the windows of cafes and other bakeries. I see cake magazines in our newsagents. I smell cakes being made whenever I visit my grandmother. I see cakes on the dessert menus of restaurants. I hear people talk about and take photos of tasty cakes on social media.

    I remember there was a threah in AH about "rape" culture, and someone posted something like ...

    Ah yeah, good old rape culture, can't wait to go to the museum where they have the rape exhibit, and the rape festival in October - best in europe ! fantastic.

    or words to that effect, so funny.

    You're too lazy to watch a documentary she presented, but you've read most of the near 1500 posts on this thread and yet Friday night was the first time you've seen her? Bizarre that you are so interested in the thread and yet didn't think to look her up, or click on any of the links to more of her material.

    Girls, and boys, are influenced by all sorts of folks and things, lots of which are even of lower profile than LON. If you really think she hasn't influenced anyone with her views, you're either being extremely naive or willfully ignorant. Stating otherwise, is literally sticking your head in the sand.

    What is open to debate, is how much or how many folks she has actually influenced, girls or boys, with her sh1te talk.

    I find it's part of a wider culture of women good, men bad.

    This article today in the Indo for example : https://www.independent.ie/life/family/family-features/friends-often-think-hes-the-nicest-man-in-the-world-how-emotionally-abusive-men-establish-control-over-partners-36681122.html

    It's all about emotional abuse and how men do it. However I'd say there are more emotionally abusive women than men.

    Read the list and see how many men and women you know in this situation, and tell me there are way more women than men in it - apart from maybe the death threats that are more typically male abusive behavior. It's really unfair and frustrating to listen to this false narrative. For sure women talk more about it. But there are at least as many men in this situation.

    - being controlled and manipulated;

    - being isolated from family and friends;

    - threats to kill the woman, the children or the woman's family;

    - abuser refusing to call the woman by her name;

    - constant name calling and being shouted at;

    - being accused of being a bad mother;

    - being told she is going mad;

    - being blamed for the abuse and being told it's her fault;

    - being shaken, kicked and woken during the night, resulting in sleep deprivation;

    - being stalked, having to change contact details and being harassed by phone, text and online after the relationship has ended.

    People like LON only tell one side of the story in an extremely biased way.

    While I absolutely agree there are plenty abusive women around. But I didn't know your opinion actually equals statistical data.

    I was expecting an absolute lunatic the way people are going on here and someone who would be dangerous to young girls.

    I saw nothing but a very boring self obsessed woman, harmless because no-one with an ounce of intelligence would be listening to that.

    I asked my daughter what she thought too and she just said "no idea what she's ****eing on about".
    some of the intelligent people will try to refute her points, I would hope that some of her audience has the ability to change their minds, but "never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups"

    My problem isn't with her but with Tubridy and his ilk. Instead of calling her out on different things he gave her an easy time and finished the interview with KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING Shiote.

    Certain people will listen to her and her views are getting across.
    I'd question her talks in schools. When I went to secondary school we had Gardai speaking to us about road safety,(IE slow down, wear seat belts,etc) they talked to us about drugs and alcohol and gave the usual advice, another time we had a work shop from a depression charity about what to do with if a friend was depressed or if you were depressed.
    These are still happening in schools and they all made sense so I suppose if Louise landed into you. You might go along with her view of the World and believe they are the norm.

    She reminds me of a columnist for Teen Vogue, Emily Lindin, who said that if Innocent Men went to jail based on a false rape accusation, then that was a price she was willing to pay.

    To be fair to Lana, at least she doesn't go that far........

    And????
    Mothers are actually the ones who will most likely know that the repeal of the 8th is needed and why it's needed.

    You reckon?
    Mother's, father's, husbands, brother's, sister's can all recognize the need for the 8th to be repealed. This patronizing attitude that mothers are most likely to know is belittling to all the other parties that inform and support such decisions.

    Look, there are many people that see the need to get this out of the Constitution and legislate for it accordingly. It's far too simplistic to say that "mother knows best"

    "Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

    And what has that to do with the point I was making to poster who was horrified that a mother's day card would be sent out by a pro choice group. My point is that a lot of mothers would have first hand experience of the complications pregnancy can bring.

    But yeah you can be offended by anything if you wish to...

    Just like fathers and men are the ones who know about the world of work and careers. Now back to your knitting dear. We've had 60 years of feminism teaching us not to be patronising to women. No one is teaching women this lesson it seems. There is an utter lack of basic respect. That's modern feminism unfortunately.

    I might be wrong but I thought women can have a career and they can work. I'm not sure men can be pregnant but you can correct me if I am wrong. Men (or anyone else) very much can make valuable contribution to abortion debate I just don't know what has that to do with the point I was making.

    It's a thing on Twitter that Louise and others are noted for. If they post something and somebody disagrees with them or asks them to back it up or calls them out on something. They just label people as trolls/and go block.

    How about having some respect for the men in your life. LON and her ilk are portraying you're father, brother, and sons as people to be afraid off and potential rapists every last one of them.

    We are responding to the complete nonsense that she is spewing and being promoted to spew on our national airwaves. We don't have a big platform that she has been provided. But we can do it on boards.ie in the hope that more and more people will see it for the craziness it is.

    The delicious irony of a pro abortion group sending out Mothers day cards is simply lost on you so.

    I don't know what sort would think that would be a good idea but it says a lot about them IMO. Mother's day is just that, you get to spoil the person who brought you into the world. Leave the sanctimonious bullcrap for another time. Not everything has to be hijacked for the 'cause de jour'.

    The 8th will be repealed, not due to stupid cards or jumpers but because I believe a majority of the Irish people feel it is time to get rid of it. How's that for offended?
