Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The thread title changes are annoying. I keep thinking I'm subbed to a thread I don't remember reading.

Think it perfectly lampoons the total absurdity of this thread tbh

No official announcement has been made yet, as far as I know.

Who would she even run with?

Sorry, it'll be the presidential election, not the general election. An independent can run as long as they get the required number of nominations from county councils or members of the Oireachtas.

Never have I came across a person that so many people claim to have no interest in but post so much about.

Not interested in LON or what she stands for? Maybe don’t post here and stop telling people that are, how irrelevant she is. It’s bizzare, you don’t see this on any other threads.

I’ve never watched or heard Miriam O Callaghan before but I see her mentioned all over Boards. Meh..

Hahahahah that would be hilarious her running for president, she would cause a constitutional crisis on day 1 by being unable to keep her mouth shut

What amazes me is the amount of people who post on this thread about how amazing this thread is.

I dont recall there ever being another thread evoking such a response from people who never heard of the subject title. It'd be peculiar if it was linked to any other topic than a "feminist" author.

How many other threads are there this long that are dedicated to one person? Because otherwise you're creating a false equivalency.

And that's the reason it's a weird thread. If there were loads of threads this long about loads of other people than this thread wouldn't be unusual.

I’ve said it numerous times on this thread. People feel the need to defend her because she’s coming from their side, but she’s too mental to put your name to so they have to attack the motives of the posters and the existence of the thread while pretending they have never heard of her and only the dissenting voices here are aware of her.

Well if we take out all the spoof and bluster - all the "it amazes me..." and the "you're obsessed..." type posts, this thread would be probably about a tenth the size.

I think the reason its such a busy thread is her views are so dangerous - and she is a role model to tens of thousands - more even.

    Dangerous

There's maybe been one or two who might have defended her - I think most are genuinely baffled by the hold she seems to have on a certain section of boards.ie when they never hear anything about her day to day in their real lives - unless you follow her on Twitter and you subscribe to the Examiner to read her articles, you're not going to see or hear here beyond an occasional book promotion interview. You do have to make the effort to seek her out to be annoyed by her.

It can only be because of the current climate of gender equality issues, her views on them and her preposterous stance of insisting that there's a "rape culture" in Ireland. It's a controversial topic that's been high on the discussion list for a number of years now and will continue to be for years to come. It's not beyond the realms of possibilities that a thread about a person that pushes the types of views that she does, would be popular.

    Would it? That's easily quantifiable.

    Dangerous

    I'm hoping that's sarcasm. I can't tell.

On the chance that it's not......

How many people have been hurt because of her? Has anyone experienced and physical harm or are they at risk of physical harm? How many have been emotionally abused by her?
The word dangerous is used far too much when it's not the case.

It's hyperbole along the line of Mary Whitehouse saying that Tom and Jerry is dangerous. It's people freaking out like little snowflakes

Louise O'Neill may be annoying for people. She may be irritating but saying she's dangerous is an overreaction.

    Dangerous

I'm pretty sure the reason it's so long is that every tweet she writes is dissected here. Mostly stuff that has nothing to do with her opinions or campaigning.

Dangerous is defo an extreme. Louise, given that she has a following, some might say that she has responsibility to be a role model, and give a little more thought before posting or stating an extreme position on something.

If that's actually true, I mean what possible harm could it do, giving someone who holds such toxic and barmy views some time with the taoiseach.

Does someone following her on Twitter automatically mean she becomes a role model to that person. Can't say anyone I followed on facebook or twitter - neither of which I use anymore - was a role model to me.

We're due a new thread title change. I propose something based on the following tweet.

 You've lost me. I dont get your question tbh

She is an author I understand.
I put feminist in quotes as she's really more a damaged fruitcake flying under the feminist banner as it suits her agenda. I know there are plenty of sane feminists out there that wouldn't agree with her.

Perhaps not, but if they had enough followers they would be classified as "social media influences" which is the same thing (split hairs and semantics aside).

They're not lazy in Feminist Porn!

Oops. The two lines in my post were meant to be separate.

The former a jab at LON's credentials. The latter, a response to those who are perplexed by why posters are "obsessed" with LON.

There's a difference between a lack of interest and actual opposition to someone's ideology, though.
