Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Denmark would be crazy not to come out and attack us. Each goal they score is worth double ours. If they score first we are in a lot of trouble and even if they go 1-0 down, they only need one goal to win. Its going to be a long nervy night.

I don't think you know how away goals work.

If it goes to extra time, do away goals count?

No winning for MON tonight from his many detractors regardless of outcome.

If we win playing someway attractive(highly unlikely) people will moan and say we should have done that v Georgia.

If we win despite Denmark dominance(more likely) the MON's lucky brigade will be out in force.

Any loss and an utter deluge of drool will ensue.

Brady annoys me, he is now giving out Wes Houlihan is not playing(as I am) but when Tapatoni never even had him in the squad Brady always defended Trap, even had arguments with Dunphy over Traps methods, again Brady always defending a manager that did not even go and see Irish players playing but he is quite prepared to put down O'Neill who at least has these guys in the squad.

They couldn't get the graphic up and had to read it out. Not the first time it's happened on RTE either.

Thats the nature of football management though.

If we lose tonight his tactics personnel selection etc will rightly be called into question.

Same here, how quickly these pundits forget

    Wes this,Wes that

If Bill was there he would probably say "Well Liam, when you were involved with Trapatoni,ye didnt pick him either"

Complete and utter garbage again from Brady who was on a management team who almost never picked wes when he was in his prime.

It's easy to talk now Liam in your ivory tower but when you had your chance you blew it.

If we win I expect us all be delighted, if we loose he will rightly be criticized

    Get over it

But having a decider (extra time) for the two games just in one countries home stadium would be unfair.

Winner takes it all and makes it to Russia World Cup 2018!

Technically Denmark can make it to Russia without even winning tonight, score draw will do them. That's my biggest fear about tonight that Ireland actually need the win while Denmark don't like the last play-off against Bosnia coming back to Dublin with that away goal advantage behind us. Hopefully like last time we can put it to bed without having to worry about away goals.

Lol you can lose a game and still very much have taken the right approach.

A simple the better side won through is often the correct explanation.

His excellent results and punching v better sides have given many fans a false impression of how good we are. Almost has made a rod for his own back.

Not for me it hasn't so I really don't know who you are talking about. I always believed well before euro 2016 we could play constructive football mixed in with a proper long ball game in certain situations ultimately leading to better results than we have achieved.
Nothing got to do with having some false impression.

    Why?

They both warm the benches at their clubs.

Long is clearly not good enough but may be a good sub to bring on for 20 minutes.

I hope for Ireland's sake that if called upon one of them proves you wrong.

Meyler speaks well - can see how he has ended up captain in Seamus' absence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,240 ✭✭✭✭briany

Whatever else happens, I just hope that any goals scored don't have a controversial element to them & I hope the Irish team puts in a spirited performance that lives up to the hopes of the country.

Give me that, and whatever else happens, I'll just say fair enough.

MON was never going to go with a more attacking team today and Meyler was always coming into the team.

Hopefully it stays tight for 60 minutes or so and then we actually have a real go at it with some positive substitutions.

Either 1-0 in normal time or we win on penalties.

If Long comes on and scores then happy days but it doesnt prove anyone wrong as his stats show he is a poor goal scorer.

Remember even if Ireland score first it does not really change the arithmetic. Denmark still only need 1 goal.

This gives Denmark more freedom to go all out for that first goal.

Thought it was the scrolling team news that was being referred to and very often people have the wrong settings for that.

It could be a really long night.

Ronnie Whelan. Can't listen to him if things are going badly.

    Watching the Sky Sports commentary.

....Actually, can barely listen to Ronnie if things are going well.
