    Hi guys

Is it going to be possible to commute from Stephens Green to Heuston Station with the new Luas?

    Cheers

Yes, change at GPO and get a second tram from Abbey Street to Heuston. On the way back, change at Abbey Street and get a second tram from Marlborough Street. Make sure you follow the rules about tagging on and off.

    Alternatively bus 145 goes direct.

Would you have to tag off and on during the interchange, or just tag on once at SSG and off at Heuston?

    No it's considered one journey.

If you are using Leap Card there is no change to the way you Touch On / Off your Leap Card on Luas. You will continue to Touch On before you get on the tram and Touch Off after you get off the tram. If you are using both lines our best advice is to Touch On and Off for the 1st tram trip and then after you change lines Touch On and Off for the 2nd tram trip. By Touching On/Off for each tram trip you will get the best value fare for your overall journey, you will have a valid ticket and you will have the flexibility to change your mind about the 2nd part of your journey.

Sounds like you'll be getting charged for two journeys?

No, it will only charge for one journey - as currently happens if you walk from Abbey Street to SSG.

Are you going to be able to travel from Sandyford to Cabra in one journey? Or are you going to need to exchange?

you'll have to change - all trams will continue to be either Red Line or Green Line, there won't be any using both lines. This is basically to keep the system simple.

Sandyford and Cabra are both on the Green Line so you won't need to change.

Is Broombridge not an extension of the Green line?
How far will the trams from broombridge go? Oconnel st? Ssg?
Is there a timetable and list of fares yet?

Trams from Broombridge will go as far as either Sandyford or Brides Glen.

bah! I was thinking of Crumlin which the Luas doesn't really go through at all.

    No it's considered one journey.

That would have made sense, but Victor is right- you have to tag on and off. That's just dumb.

Yeah but you better wait a few weeks or you could be waiting at the stops for a long time

Incorrect Broombridge trams will only go to Sandyford

I think that you’ll find that at certain times they will go to Brides Glen.

Maybe look through the NTA journey planner (as I did) before telling people they’re “incorrect”.

If you don't tag off after 90 mins of tagging on, the system tags you off automatically assuming you went to the end of the line. So if you were going from say tallaght to brides Glen, by the time you went to tag off at the end, you'd probably have passed the 90 min window and when you went to tag off the system would then tag you back on, so you'd end up paying full fare twice.

Tagging off one line and on to another kinda just tells the system that you're still continuing your journey, and restarts your 90 min window, but when you tag off at the end it will work out what you should have paid from start to finish and charge you correctly.

It also means that if you bump into your mate between Abbey and Marlborough street and decide to go for a coffee, you can do so without affecting your fare.

I understand the rationale, and while it might be tempting to change the time window, that has its own issues with fare evasion. I think for most people the advice is not needed - if you are just travelling mostly in on one line and then transferring for a few stops on the other(i.e Sandyford-Heuston or Tallaght-Charlemont) you can get away with not tagging on and off in the middle.

Anyone want to predict how many accident and near misses they will be until people get use to it, the turn at the top of O'Connell street is very tight.
