Ryzen and ram ?

I bought a Ryzen 1600 and a gigabyte 350m mono but had to hold off and rest of the build due to life getting in the way.I'm hoping with black Friday to get a few deals, wanted to know can I just use one stick of 8gb ram and then buy another later or do I have to use a pair of ram sticks?.
