As the title says, does a solicitor need probate to deal with a life insurance claim?

Depends on the size of the state. I was involved with one that and the claim was c. €100k.

Deceased had other assets (property etc.) and probate was required.

Solicitor mentioned a "small estate exemption" - was it €70k?
