Hi, I have an old gaming PC and I'm looking at upgrading the processor and the graphics card but I'm worried about compatability between a fairly old motherboard and the new components. The motherboard is a ASRock H61M/U3S3 (B3), Sockel 1155, mATX.

I'm thinking of getting an i5 processor and something like a GTX 1050 but open to reccomendations. Thanks.

Get yourself a second hand i5 3570 or i7 3770 or the k variants even though you won't be able to overclock them on that board and a new 1050ti.

That will be solid for 1080p/60hz gaming with max or near max settings.

Grab an ssd as well if you haven't already.

Any CPU you buy will have to be second-hand, Intel discontinued LGA 1155 in 2013.

    I'd skip the i5 & jump straight to a 3.3GHz+ Core i7 / Xeon from this list: http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/h61mu3s3/#CPU

I'd agree at this point might as well jump straight for an i7-2600 (about €100) or i7-3770 (about €150). Then get a GTX1050Ti for €160. Would be good for most new demanding games at 1080p medium @ 60fps - more forgiving ones like Overwatch or GTA V at high settings @ 60fps no problem.
