Advice on timers for lights

Hi, hoping some people here may be able to recommend best solutions for timing a few lights as I'm getting very confused by the range of products out there. Security of the place I'm renting is not great and can't make the sort of physical improvements that would be recommended for a home owner, so I want to at least have lights coming on and off when I'm not around.

I looked at some of the smart light bulbs such as

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-LB110-Dimmable-Included-Required/dp/B01N23ACHA?th=1

However, there's sometimes also another person staying in the house who'd be even less technical than me so I imagine that's not a great solution if only controlled from a phone app that only I'd have?

Has anyone used older fashioned timers that fit onto the switches like this?

Is there any differences between various switch products similar to above I should be aware of, or any particular products people would recommend or have seen good deals on online? Also is there a version of something like the above, where it could easily be used for manual on/off, but if someone switched it to 'off' I could switch it back to 'programme' remotely?

    Thanks in advance!

Something like the TP Link smart plug maybe?

Theres a Wemo version too, think its on sale on Amazon at the moment. The TP ones are good though, I think I got mine in Woodies.

TP Link smart plugs are good.

Another option is Philips Hue smart lights. You would need a starter kit of a hub and some bulbs and also some Hue dimmer switches.

You then cover the light switches with a plastic cover so the non techinical user doesn't accidentally switch them off. You place the Hue dimmer switches next to the old light switch (now covered) and they use it to turn on and off the light instead. You can then remotely control the lights and set schedules, inlcuding ones based on sunet, etc.

A bit more expensive then one plug, but also more comprehensive.

Another option to look into is some IP cameras, such as Logitech Circle, Arlo, Blink, etc. Allows you to remotely monitor your home.
