anyone else noticing the large volume of discarded boxes of nitrous oxide around the town?!
Empty boxes and canisters of the gas left by the roadside in various parts.
there’s a big problem going on with kids inhaling this stuff and I don’t think it’s been highlighted enough

There was a video floating around Facebook but it was from several years ago. Probably that…

Compliments to those who organised the display in Linear Park. It’s looking great.

Let’s just hope it’s not vandalised.

Anyone know why announcements regarding the three outstanding vacancies for Newbridge LEA’s is taking so long?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,494 ✭✭✭Damien360

If it took 6 counts for Pender to reach quota then it's going to take a lot more for the last three.

    Second recount starts this morning

Melissa Byrne was one vote ahead of James Stokes.

After the first recount, he went two ahead so Aontu asked for another check.

Full recount this morning at 10am.. Stokes was 1 behind Byrne so a recount was held, he then came out 2 ahead of Byrne and Aontu pushed for another recount

Thanks for the heads up Folks. Just checked, only 5 LEA seats outstanding, 3 in Newbridge & 2 in Birr.

Second recount saw them tied at 1,098 votes each with Melissa Byrne going through due to a greater number of first preferences.

However Sinn Fein have requested a third recount which is now underway.

Very disappointing to hear that the implementation of Phase 2 of the revised fares structure is delayed until at least Q1 of 2025. This means that neither the reduced fares or leap card implementation will be in place in Newbridge or Kildare Town this year.

The reason given is that the contractor cannot fulfil the technical work in time. However, both Newbridge and Kildare have leap card validators (like the ones at Heuston, not the Luas style ones like in Sallins & Naas). Kildare only has access from one side of the station, meaning no further validators are required there (since everyone must come through the same entrance). Newbridge would only need more on platform 2 for the second entrance there.

Regardless of whether leap validators are installed, the reduction in fares should have still gone ahead in a similar way to how the price adjustments happened in Phase 1 a few weeks ago.

There is a petition by Chris Pender to urge the NTA to reconsider this delay

I was up at Tescos today & noticed a woman protesting on the centre reservation ( outside KFC ) holding a placard complaint about RTÉ hiding the Covid numbers ( or words to that effect ) .

What is she trying to say?

Are they back? There was a group of those guys some time last year. Conspiracy theory stuff.

Newbridge draft town plan is posted on the bus stop on the Bord na Móna side of the street and of course online.

Parking to be removed from Bord na Móna side of street down to bridge. All parking both sides to be removed from post office all the way to finlays garage. Notions of using existing parking that included Dunnes private car park.

Notions of asking/begging for a bus route in town.

Opening up a route (already there but not open yet) from Brennan's garage through housing estate to meet Standhouse road. Section marked towards blackberry lane but hard to tell if they plan going there as the rail líne comes across that bit of land.

Not a whole lot to the plan but it's taken long enough to get to this point. If anyone remembers, the last one had closure of GAA car park and making it a through way. That's long gone.

Other than that, the GAA grounds entrance looks impressive. 2 sets of turn stiles. That was once supposed to move out to Tougers and that land to be sold to developers. Plan for that was circa 2006. As I said above, notions.

Removal of *some* on-street parking is probably needed given how narrow the main street is. However it is worth pointing out that on-street parking is free before 9.30am & after 5.30pm & no charge applies on Sundays. If people are directed to use Whitewater & Town Centre car parks then they’ll have to pay. Consequently they may make other arrangements & businesses could lose out.
