Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We could do with some depth in the engine room for Exeter if we are to expect to defend for 30 phases.

Was there any update on Molony or Nagle going off in the Dragons game?

Nagle just went off due to tiredness etc.

Molony no word, but likely out.

2 backrowers on bench be my move.

Ruddock to cover there I guess if Moloney and Ryan both out. Wouldn't have much faith in any of the others really in a game of that magnitude.

Ruddock has to start. Not sure I'd want him covering lock unless he's coming in fresh.

Do we have two other back options available? Murphy is one but would VDF be back?

Obviously he's going to start but him moving second row with Leavy coming off the bench is much stronger than him staying at 6 with someone like Nagle coming off the bench.

For the record, I was just joking. He has to start.

Not a big fan of the 2nd row being covered by someone on the pitch either. Would much prefer someone on the bench who can come in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Then does the question have to be asked if, despite Ruddock deserving to start, we are better off with say Leavy 6 and Ruddock + Murphy benching than Ruddock starting with Leavy + Nagle on the bench. The gap between Leavy and Ruddock is smaller than the second option I feel so might be worth a look

The problem with that idea is that Rhys Ruddock is very, very good at rugby

Given Ruddocks form we want him on the pitch for the maximum amount of time possible. I see where you are coming from and there is some logic there for sure but I think we'll see Ruddock, SOB, Conan with JDVF and Leavy on the bench as it stands. I believe Conan can also cover lock?

I suppose it's a matter of backing ourselves to go win it from the start as opposed to holding back to try hold on or rescue it at the end

Is Leavy not out until the new year?

For me, there's no point in benching Ruddock so he can cover lock. There is no real scenario where it's of actual benefit to have Ruddock on the bench or Nagle in the squad. If Toner/Fardy need to come off, they'll come off before any of the back row. Just move Ruddock to lock and bring Leavy on to 6. Murphy on the bench to also cover 7/8.

Is he? I'm totally lost as to who's where fitness wise.

Sorry, he returned to training last week. Should be available on that basis.

Definitely my thinking too. Nagle or Kearney coming on makes the team a lot weaker. If Ryan or Moloney were fit they'd bench, no issue.

Forcing a back row to cover the 2nd row makes the team weaker

Yes but like putting Carbery at fullback there is an element of 'get your best players on the pitch'.

I really hope James Ryan can stay healthy for the second half of the season.

Not the same as playing a guy out of position though, you go from a position which is all about athelticism and covering every blade of grass to a position where you have to keep your power for set pieces. I'd imagine if we potentially need him there we'll have him holding back a little in open play.

Very suprised at some selections there.

I thought Leo would get some combinations out ahead of Europe.

So VdF returns along with Ringrose making his seasonal debut and Lowe his Leinster debut.

    Bueno.

    Are there concerns over Isa?

I'm excited to see Larmour there.

As much competition in the back 3 as we've ever had. Just need to develop that in midfield now and our backs will be set.

Absolutely not, but he's only played once since coming off against Monty in the first half 7 weeks ago.

Returned from injury last week and is back out this week. Maybe they are resting him with the Christmas period in mind, but I'd have thought if he was to feature in Europe he'd need some more game time this week.

Pfft. Disgraceful poaching by Leinster. Trying to ruin Georgian rugby.

I mean... I'd have thought we're going to see James Lowe on the left wing and Adam Byrne on the right wing with Rob Kearney at 15. But Isa could start at 11 with Lowe on the bench.

I'm not sure that him missing this week means much at all really. Lots of guys to share game time around in the squad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

If Ringrose can hit the ground running that could be a lethal back line. Can't wait to see how Lowe fares. And obviously Larmour is going to cause major flooding in Venjurs locality again.

If Henshaw is fit then Isa might just not make the team.

If Henshaw is not fit then wrap Isa in cotton wool this week and play him at 12 next week.
