Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good choice but they should have gotten him to sing “Step into Christmas”. Even an acoustic version.

Just back from a nice day out, in a park very similar to Bunratty Folk Park.
A little taste of good things to come in Autumn: cottages had the fire going, and there were some big pumpinks in the vegetable gardens.
Bought some honey, which will come in very handy for seasonal hot drinks and might also go into mulled wine :)

Each year i put our tree up one month to the day before my flight to Ireland. It means i get a months worth out of it and as i have allot to put up makes it worthwhile. Its generally november 18th.

As we 're staying home this year and not heading to ireland my OH has asked if we can leave it till December . So is there a certain date in December we should think of? Any historic significance?

Traditionally, in my family we always put up the tree on 8 Dec, a religious holiday and also a day off work in my Country.
Ths way, the tree was up a whole month till the 7 Jan.

Well I suppose if we went back Years upon Years ago a lot didn't decorate until Christmas Eve.
Then it sort of moved to the 8th of December and things were taken down on the 6th/7th of January.
Now some still goes by this but other put the tree up for The Late Late Toy Show.
Some of these people take the tree down even before New Year but some keep it up until the traditional date in January.

I was talking to my mother.(She'd be in her mid fifties)
a while ago and on the lead up to Christmas people would be baking/buy presents/etc.
The shops used have normal opening hours up until Christmas Eve and then they used stay open until 8pm/9pm and this was the local Co-op and all the little independent places. They then use close and everybody got ready for mass.
    This was in County Cork.

As soon as I saw this tin I thought of the Guinness Christmas ad. :)

The date in my family was always December 8th for putting up the tree, now I go for around the 25th November, or the nearest weekend dates to it. :)

We used be the closest weekend to the 11th Dec. Now, since the kids have a say it tends to be the first weekend in December. Comes down on Jan 2nd or the day before we go back to work. Cant bear going back to work & them still being up after the event.

We go for the 8th for our fake tree and about 5 days before Christmas for the real one - the first year we were in our house, we put the real one up too early and it was very sad looking come the big day!

I saw the cutest skinny snow flocked artificial tree, on display last year.

I do hope the shops carry it this year, the Elf in me needs to have it.

I popped into an internet radio app I have last night to add some stations on the favourite list and the last station I had playing on it was Christmas FM and it started playing it.

There’s nothing like Christmas music it’s just music for the soul.

Has anyone been to the Causey Farm Christmas experience? I priced it up yesterday and for the 4 of us, it would be over 60euro. It's quite steep, just wondering if it's worth it? We did their Hallowe'en experience last year and were a bit underwhelmed by it.

I'm unsure if these are new but Oreo/Cadbury's are doing a selection box!

Just booked off the 30th of November I believe the toy show will be on that night so will deep clean the house and pop the tree up :)

Traditionally the tree in our house went up when we got the school hols and down on the 7th of Jan.  Think it was an agreement with my scrooge neighbours - neither house was big into decs.  Was always really jealous when we'd go for a drive to see the Christmas lights in other houses.
Maybe that's why I'm gone the other extreme now - I try to have the tree up for the Toy Show and it still stays until the 7th....or maybe longer....the 7th is the very earliest I start taking stuff down, so it can take a few days.  It shortens January a bit.
