Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I know but I won't lose a large percentage of it's value if I had 000's of XRP it's a different case

I think the general consensus the're going to lower the rate, to maybe 5 XRP at some time in the future but then people who have spent 20 will have to get the difference back.

I have no idea what you mean. What you're talking about is basically selling into btc and not having any ripple anymore so if they change the rate to 5 RXP then it makes 0 difference to you at that time because you'll be buying into ripple again at a new price if then if you get back into it. You're saying store ripple in btc but that's not a thing. You're cashing out.

What I'm saying is that I think 20 XRP is a bit much to access a wallet, I'll cash out before paying that. Where as if it was 5 XRP I would probably transfer it.

so you'll buy the XRP on an exchange, leave it there and then cash out before you would pay the 20XRP for a wallet?

So basically you've no intention of holding?

My guess is the intention was to hold, but on discovering it was going to cost 20 XRP he's changed his mind!

If you've bought, say, 100 XRP, I can see why you'd balk at lose 20% to simply put it in a wallet off the exchange.

TBH, if the amount isn't huge just leave it on the exchange. The risk of it being hacked is pretty small, and there isn't large sums involved anyway.

Does that apply to using a ledger nano s too?

It's to do with the sudden surge in the price of XRP over the last 6 weeks.

Back when the coin was super-cheap, the XRP wallet reserve was 50 XRP which amounted to not a whole lot in FIAT value. When the price rose, they lowered this reserve to 20 XRP.

Given the continuation of that surge, they will lower the reserve again.

This wallet reserve is a constant sticking point with the Ripple community, but still one that is accepted as a necessary part of the system's operation.

Not mad about it myself, but I do expect them to lower the wallet reserve soon to reflect XRP's $2+ value.

That's if we still have that $2+ value. It hasn't been easy sailing or hodling today.

Edit: $2.34 on Binance now, down 20c since I started writing this post 10 minutes ago :(

I snuck half of my XRP into BTC yesterday and just put most of the rest in after it.

I should probably just sit tight but there's too much red on the board. :pac:

it's the usual friday dip, however i believe Bitcoin is coming back into play, not that it ever left. i expected it sooner....next stop 25k?? interesting times.

I bought back into ripple this morn, alot of positive press ( except the coinbase tweet) over the last few days so hopefully this dip is short lived

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,006 ✭✭✭beno619

Gatehub used to give you 20 XRP to cover the cost of operating the wallet. Not sure if they still do given the rise in value.

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭millhouse

I've lost out on every dip in ripple and Eth over the past 6 weeks, my head is telling me to sell again but i'm determined to sit tight on this one and ride it out. Bitcoin is definitely coming back into play, funds gained from ripple could be pushing bitcoin. There will be announcements within ripple over the coming weeks that will drive it back up . Might be an idea to buy in the dip . God only knows ......

Shouldn't everyone be holding bitcoin as a hedge? When a popular alt nose dives , bitcoin nearly always goes up. The dump has to go somewhere and it's nearly always bitcoin.

So I just bought my first lot of Ripple (Yippee).

What website/app are people using to track its price? It seems like every site seems to display a different current Ripple price!

Only price that matters is the exchange you sell it on. So check the price on the exchange. Binance for example has it's own app so easy to check

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭millhouse

"Crypto prices all in one" is a good app. You can choose the relevant coins from the exchanges you are on .

Sadly, Binance is currently closed to new accounts - see here

Kraken is creaking at the seams and probably should also be closed to new customers. They have been promising an upgrade on their website for a while now (onscreen message is mid December, from memory), but I don't think they've delivered it.

Where else is Ripple traded (and is relatively secure) ?

    Many thanks

    Thanks,

    G.

Blockfolio is an app and lets you choose which exchange you want to get the price from be it Bittrex, Binance, Kraken etc

Handy when you have multiple coins across multiple exchanges

Hi all. Bought a number of ripple sometime ago.

Currently resting in my bittrex wallet. Have been told they could be stored safer. Where’s best for ripple to be stored as a wallet?

Using etherscan for ETH so transferring for me is okay

Did anyone else sign up to the ripple telegram group ?

Is has become ridiculous and worries me to think all these people have money in the game. It has 38k members, hundreds of messages popping up every few minutes and it's dominated by people saying things like ' Tonight at 11pm ripple will hit 50$' . Zero actual discussion going on.

It's like the Reddit hive mind personified into an instant messaging group.

I think its the easiest and fastest way to buy XRP

Using blockfolio to keep track of things. Just rebought some xrp on binance. Blockfolio showing the price at $2.80 (close enough to euro price), should be around $3.40. Anyone else seeing that error?

I find blockfolio to be very unreliable, it's a daily occurrence where it fails to refresh the prices. I wouldn't rely on it. Binance have a mobile app however which is pretty good.

XRP mania has run its course much the same way as a massacre in Las Vegas or some other kind of "eye opener du jour".

now just go about your live and let Ripple rise.

now just go about your live and let Ripple rise.

    But wait...

Was it not all that new frenzy "eye opener du jour" money coming in that was going to propel us c. $1.00 - $1.50 HODLers to the moon?

If Ripplemania is dying down, what's going to help us get to 2x or 3x the current price?

The market cap is already insane at $130bn+. For XRP to even just double your money at the current price, we need the market cap to more or less equal that for BTC. That would be impressive, and completely nuts.

I came into this game a few weeks ago to board the XRP train with a suitcase full of optimism and dollar signs in my eyes. The longer I'm here, with the more I learn and study the way the market (should) work, the less I believe in the returns potential of investing in XRP. Certainly at the current prices.

I invested in tranches between $1.10 and $1.40, I'm starting to think of an exit strategy with XRP to be honest. I know there's people out there looking at the current price thinking 'Great, I'm gonna buy on the dip and profit big time', and those people could be right, but XRP is starting to unsettle me personally.

Note that I don't think it's going to dive or anything. I just don't think it's going to be as lucrative for the >$1 investors as a lot of people hope it's going to be.

I think I'll get out now and find better opportunity . I got in at 60 cent and I reckon I can put my money to better use. As you say, for me to double my mine means Ripple == Bitcoin in market cap.I don't see that happening for a long time.

Now if everyone is thinking like me here and gets out when things slow down then this whole market is f**ked. Few are in for the long haul.

BTC/USD is worse this morning so not a good idea to hedge with BTC?

Edit: I sold 75% to USD at $2.46 in case it ends up around $1.50-70.

more doubt creeping into my mind about this

    http://fortune.com/2018/01/05/ripple-ceo-brad-garlinghouse-cryptocurrency-xrp/
Popper backed this up by claiming that bankers are not using XRP—a damning assertion, if true, since Ripple contends banks are embracing its currency as part of a larger shift away from the legacy money transfer system known as SWIFT. Here’s what Popper said:

    more details in the link.

No it's where. Some coins initially start on smaller markets , gain value and then are added to bigger exchanges or Binance but by then the real window of opportunity is gone.

Cryptopia is one such place but it's closed to new folk at the minute

Of all the questions that get asked in this forum. This has to be the most frequent.
Go to coinmarketcap, click on the coin in question and select markets. Top exchange is the busiest in relation to coin in question.
