Think this one deserves it's own thread.

Second biggest ranking event of the season kicks off tomorrow at the Barbican Centre in York. I don't think many fans/players are happy with the format changes over the last few years but we are where we are.

Format 128 players with everyone turning up bar the suspended Bingham.
Best of 11 all the way to the final which is best of 19.
TV coverage BBC and Eurosport from the last 64 stage on Saturday onwards.
Hopefully there'll be a live stream set-up for the first few days.
Selby defending champion after a 10-7 win over Ronnie last year.

Irish interest with O'Brien, Doherty, Josh Boileau, Leo Fernandez and Hossein Vafaei.

    Draw.

    Odds.
    4/1 RO'S, 5/1 Selby, 6/1 Trump, 12/1 Higgins, 14/1 Ding, 20s bar.

Big shock indeed, it's been a terrible start to the season for Ding.

    Well done Leo!

Why is Hossein Vafaei of Irish interest?

Why is Hossein Vafaei of Irish interest?

He lived (maybe still lives) in Navan.

Not a fan of the format changes myself.

Open to correction but I think he only had temp visa to stay in Ireland and he had to leave when it expired. As far as I know he’s based in Iran and travels from there. Crazy really because he’s a proper talent but will probably struggle to make progress the longer that endures.

Gotta love Fergal O'Brien, started around 10am and still playing long after every other match is over.
4-3 down at the moment so still potentially a bit to go. Not sure if they'll continue to the end or be kept back until later.

I think we could be in for late night snooker at The Barbican! C'mon Fergal.

Fantastic results for Ken and Jimmy, I hope they get put on the TV tables in the second round.

What’s wrong with Ali Carter? Needs one snooker in the last with 2 reds remaining and concedes? Dreadful performance from him.

Attitude . Has had health problems to be fair but still always strikes me as one of these people that thinks the world owes him something

Yeah poor temperament, he effectively gave up there much earlier when a few things didn’t go his way. Was he like that before his health issues? Not too sure on that one, but he has to deal with it before it’s too late. He’s nearly as bad as Maguire now.

Decent performance that from Donaldson, didn’t miss much or even get twitchy towards the end.

So: two of worlds top 3 gone. So much for sitting it out last week!

Ken & Robbo must be off the table, can’t see any update that match?

That new bbc wipe graphic is very jarring as it very white. I hope they would consider another wipe graphic.

That, and the scoreboard are horrible. At least they got rid of the vertical line that indicated whose shot it was and replaced it with an arrow.

Yes, especially nowadays with all the lower ranked players it was not clear who exactly was at the table with that black line used yesterday.

The rest of the graphics I like, freshens it up anyway.

Murphy doing his best to throw his match at the moment, from 4-2 to 4-5, has a chance to clear up now and take it to a decider.

Aye the pressure seemed to get to him in the end there over a few critical shots, Murphy cruising now it seems in the decider, few more reds and it will be done. And just as I say that Murphy gets loose on his position, and break over, no option but to play the safety.

He's 100% correct. He's going to win the match by having it replaced.

Can't believe he got out of that snooker! Should have capitalised.
