I have a long wait until my AC, so I presume it's being run over the next couple of months

I’m the opposite I don’t have a long wait so not long to prepare.

I'd rather have mine sooner rather than later, with the amount of time I have i think I'll begin to over think about it.

Exactly. I’ve been trying to do as much prep as possible since I completed the IST so will be good to have it over with.

I’m unsurprised the pass mark was so high. They replaced numerical reasoning (maths) with the SJT. In my opinion this made it far easier this time around, meaning more people scored higher, inflating the pass mark. I found the IST in the 1509 campaign very hard yet passed with a significant margin. I found this test very easy and I only scraped by a few marks or so. Clearly, this demonstrates that more people done better. Don’t beat yourselves up guys. There is always next time. Sometimes these delays happen for a reason even if you can clearly make sense of it all now.

Who knows what will happen between now and the next campaign? It seems like yesturday I failed my fitness in 1509. It comes around again quickly. Between then you might see another campaign for Belfast Harbour, International Airport, Larne Harbour, Northern Ireland Security Guard Service (special constables), an garda siochana, the NCA and various police staff roles. Don’t give up. Persevere.

High score and AC very soon but also near the start of the alphabet so not sure if thats any indication

From the people I’ve spoke to, Surnames beginning with W’s are in march time, I’m an M, mid February and I know a D who is at the end of Jan who scored lower than me. It looks to be in alphabetical order for the AC.

I know ones who are the beginning of the alphabet and are after me. And I’m further down the alphabet.

Did anybody notice the email said the psni might be starting their end of things even before the assessment centre is finished?

Wait, what? Do you have a source? Online learning now would make sense.

I MIGHT have got the wrong end of the stick here but heres where I based that info on correct me if im wrong

    Results of your Assessment Centre

Also note that Deloitte and the PSNI reserve the right to instigate phased processing of candidates through to the PSNI managed stages of the process). We would appreciate if you could refrain from contacting us regarding your Assessment Centre result until after that date.

I could have picked that up worngly!

At first glance I thought it meant passing cantidates on to psni before the results were out

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭jwhdkl5736

I was worried there. The PSNI don't know who we are until Deloitte hand over a merit list as far as I know. Again, the pass mark of the AC can be relative to how everyone scored. To advance people to further stages who may not make it sounds like a waste of time on their part. Phew!

During the 1509 campaign they told us during the AC that PSNI could pull people forward for fitness before results are handed out. Just to speed up the process. But i never heard of anyone going forward.

But did it not say near the start of the email that the psni would be sending us out vetting forms by post?

Please note: Following this invitation to attend the Assessment Centre, you will receive correspondence directly from the PSNI (via post)

In the consensia days people would begin vetting etc before others had completed their ACs.

Pretty sure that bit at the end means people will receive not progressing at this time emails when the results do come out i.e top scorers first then the next batch a few months later and so on like we had in 1509.

Does anybody know if you can request to see the correct/wrong answers from the IST. It would be very helpful to see where I went wrong?

It's the first time they've done it this way. Maybe. Before you couldn't.

Sorry for the stupid question... If we have A-level certificates, do we bring those? Or just the required GCSE ones?... ps, hope to see you all soon.

Just the 5 GCSEs Incl Maths + English, no more...even if you have 10 GCSEs. Brought everything and they made me give them a random 3 last time to photocopy.

Weird question, I have 4 GCSES ( eng maths science and IT) and I currently have 2 AS levels going to be full A levels this year, will the compensate the missing GCSE?

I'm not to sure as it doesn't state anything about further qualifications beyond GCSE's. Not much help I know but I would ring and ask..

    Give what they ask for

I'll shoot them an email, I think it should be fine realistically speaking as it counts for more than 5 GCSES lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

Mate if you stated on your application form. That you have 5 GCSEs A*-C And actually have 4, you could be disqualified.

It says (Equivalent) I I was guessing that it would be fine, because academically it would be the equivalent or more

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

The equivalent would be a level 2 qualification, essential skills etc.

As levels are level 3 and are so higher.

Think equivalent refers to the irish leaving cert for those applying across the border. I would shoot deloitte an e-mail as banterbus's concern is valid

    My point is this.

You signed an accountable document stating that you have 5 GCSEs.

You then signed a confirmation that everything you stated on the application is true.

    See where this going?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Goonerdee

    You’ll be fine

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

"Provided that you meet our eligibility criteria (i.e. have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-C grade"

    From Goonerdee's link

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭KN1231999

I've shot Deloitte an email, I'm thinking it's fine, as it's worth more than 5 GCSE's

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Goonerdee

There is an example further down about not having the GCSEs and they use A Levels as being acceptable

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

That's ok. The have seen sense. Sometimes in recruitment it's just not sorry don't meet criteria despite having a the equivalent of a degree

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 182 ✭✭BlueCop8790

On a side note, has anyone heard on the news today about the current shortage of officers and the strain it's causing on the PSNI? hopefully that encourages the PSNI to recruit more than 300 recruits.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭KN1231999

Thanks for all the information and replies, banter and goonerdee, I've sent out an email just in case. Just so I don't worry about it. Sort of worrying now lol

I used to work with a colleague was excluded from the selection process because he had 4 GCSEs 2 A levels and an OU degree.

My understanding of equivalent qualification is GCSE -> Vocational Equivalent, Essential Skills etc.

Who know's though, it may have changed.

Potentially, you could sit some sort of fast-tracked essential skills course now and have it done in time for the AC.

Sorry for being so negative, but i'd say it's highly likely you're going to be binned. The requirements are pretty black and white and they are very thorough with checking them requirements at the AC.

Does anyone know if enough people passed? Is there any chance they would lower the pass mark and invite those next in line to AC later on in the year?

Good question! How many applications were there overall?

That may set a precedent they don't want to set.

Why process people who didn't pass when you can just run another campaign and reach a larger number of people?

Unfortunately I can only assume that once you completed the IST, they would of known straight away who then passed/failed, in order to set up the AC, for the dates provided. Which means there must have been enough passed, if that makes sense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 44 Peelerwannabe

Yes that makes total sense....just clutching at straws now. Going to stop thinking about it and be more prepared for next time!

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 mrlovalova22

Honestly I would see another recruitment drive starting up after this one is fully completed, based on how the campaign goes.

I know we all hated the dreaded wait, but in comparison to previous drives, it's been a lot more straight forward and quicker, in my opinion of course, and safer more to the point from a security point of view.

Realistically thinking if this goes to plan we could all be in GV by the summer, Which is only 8 months, instead of the previous YEARS people were forced to wait, the future is looking bright for new recruits!!!

The pass mark is set to have a set amount of people through. so the current pass mark was set after the marks so that a certain amount of people move on to the next stage.
