Further email just released marked as public re: police recruitment

The jist of it is as follows:

“To clarify, the request for an additional 400 officers in relation to Brexit was quoted in the press rather than by the Police Service of Northern Ireland. A business case is currently being prepared and we anticipate that we are likely to see an increase in police officer numbers...”

It puts a slightly more positive reading slant on everything. It looks like they’re going to do what they can to take more constables on after March finance depending finance and additional resource requests. It falls short of promises and guarantees but it clearly declares some sort of intention to go further up the merit list beyond what they have guaranteed.

It’s still all to play for! It’s a marathon rather than a race for those 400+ but that doesn’t mean the end isn’t within reach. Sometime in the first part of next year it could be you. The time will fly as it always does.

How come they are at 350 on merit list already for July pca dates . So after that batch go through the pca are they just going to stop giving dates out

Only thing I can think of is if the PCA only lasts 6 months those doing it in July will be covered with their PCA until Jan for appointment... If they’re looking people to appoint in Feb/March with some luck they’ll have given others PCA dates to cover those squads.. That email has everyone more confused than ever and it’s all guess work about what will happen to anyone above 350.

They did extend some of 1509s PCA validities though

As long as you're logged in you're good as you scroll through each section

So theres no need to try and save anything before logging out?

Without trying to get everyone’s hopes up, that email strikes me as politics. Same as the ‘400 for brexit’, it’s all part of the game that needs to be played to get more funding and more feet on the beat.

All this talk of funding and more officers, i'm hoping that they get the police federation recommended 5.4% pay increase that was requested, rather than the 1% increase that was approved.

What's anyone's thought on districts (urban vs. rural)? I wrote a whole big breakdown and it was essentially a few points in varying shades. Overtime, speed of access to training courses and promotion prospects. It was just these points but each being the flip side depending on your view of say whether or not you liked overtime, e.g. some people want overtime for more money, and some people prefer their time off etc.

Hopefully they invest the 19/20 budget into taking from the existing merit list as opposed to starting a new campaign and repeating the process. I would assume this would be greater value for money although public sector finances/budgets don’t always operate in a logical way. However if they are taking the approach that they only want the highest scoring candidates then the latter would make sense.

Not all training will be in GV.

Some will be Steeple, some in Ballykinler, some in Aldergrove etc etc

I’ve been told that a lot of your satisfaction at your district will depend on your comparability with your Sargent who will ultimately manage you workload. If you don’t gel with your colleagues and superiors life can be difficult. That is the same anywhere however. Wherever you go, whatever you land yourself in, make an effort with people, keep your opinions to yourself and suss how the place works and adapt yourself accordingly. We don’t know yet what districts are/aren’t up for grabs?

I live in Belfast city at the moment, so I’m thinking outside Belfast. I’m excluding Lisburn and Castlereagh simply because I’ve heard romours from more than one source about how LPTs are managed (and I won’t say anymore), so I’m ruling that out. Bangor/ards + larne/carrick +Antrim/abbey for me. Ruralish urban environments. Mixture of town and country. Accessible. “Safe” for me I think at the moment at least.

I have 2 districts in mind. 1 I know around 10 people. The other I only know 1. All love their districts.
But it will also depend what districts are available when our forms arrive. Available districts change every intake.

My main goals from districts are...
Distance from home, travel time, over time amount( I want some but not every day off cancled). accessible to courses, variety of work. But also longer term the chance that after probation of being "allowed" to apply for specialist roles.
You have to be released to be allowed to move. If they can't spare the man/woman-power you may not be released.
