PCA is zero to nothing in terms of intensity, you need to condition yourself to start work at 110% immediately, yes keep up the endurance but you need to get used to working that hard that quickly.

Remember the PCA is all job related physical activities, peelers bounce out of cars to chase folk, sprint out from cordons to retrieve injuries colleagues and drag them back to safety.

Looks at the PCA video and do exercises to compliment each task/obstacle

Remember you are training to pass the test, the test is job related, so by training to pass the test you are training g for the job, the video literally gives you all the I go you need to come up with a very effective bespoke plan

Great advice everyone, ive been cycling up hills for a while but got out of the way of doing it at christmas time to get up and start doing it again! The hills were pure killers for my cardio, the only thing that kept me going was the thought If I dont I might as well forget about being a police officer!

Done my first interval sprint there! It would defintly tighten you that for sure! I had to stop after my 5th one I took a stitch so bad I could not even breath without pain lol, does that go away the more you train?

Drink plenty of water and eat something small before - warm up to it

Drink water solidly the day before and up to an hour before exercise. Do some warm up exercises to get you heart rate up and blood flowing before launching into your proper workout

Guys discussing AC is against the confidentiality agreement you have signed and you will be disqualified for breaching it. Be careful

Completely understand buddy, was more just curious if it was similar to old AC's than looking for any specific information.

Has anybody got their vetting forms yet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 771 ✭✭✭NiK9

    Nope :(

Relax guys they probs will send them out at the half way point, so that they will be completed as near to PCAs as possible, plus they can discontinue the vetting for those who fail PCA to save money

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

    Fail AC not PCA

That would actually make more financial sense. No point vetting everyone who is going to the AC.

No they will likely do the basic checks on everyone but the deeper stuff probs will only be done on those who pass AC

Any idea how long the vetting process takes or is it all different.

Unlikely that they sent everything at once and did everyone's at the same time things likely went in tranches

1 year to conduct vetting on one candidate is absolutely ridiculous.

Vetting really depends on you, not on the vetting officers. It depends how many jobs and addresses you have had etc.
I'm not sure how deep the PSNI vetting goes but the last vetting I went through was last year. It was Developed vetting (highest level in the UK).
We had to give a 10 year history. (Work addresses and length working there, home address, schools etc.)
Had to give all our relatives details (brothers sister's mum dad aunts uncle's grandparents). Needed their address' dates of birth, nationality and occupations.
They needed access to our social media accounts and bank details to do financial checks etc.

After that we had to attend a vetting interview (which psni don't do. Unless specialist roles) during this we got asked everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING! Asked if you have ever been in trouble with police, had details took, driving offenses. If you've ever been in bands etc attended protests. Asked if you gamble and member or what sites. Gambling sites, dating sites etc. Even got asked what kind of porn we watched!!!

10 of us went through that vetting and only 4 of us passed and even then it took us 5 month to be told we had cleared. Vetting is different for everyone and can take a long long time

The level of vetting required for PSNI is not to DV level. DV level is for working on things that associate to national security yes certain specialisms in the police require DV and yes you will be interviewed for them.

If you have been resident in the UK, worked in the UK, studied in the UK, have a UK based financial history, no convictions and aren't in horrific debt then your vetting should come out fine, inappropriate associations apparently fail plenty

Also if you have a business/self employed I'd have you finances in order and make sure your paper trail is squeaky clean

Yea a couple of them failed from stuff they had online. Now is definitely the time for people to clean up their online presence. Close accounts and clean social media. I got rid of my fb etc before my dv vetting and I havnt went back. So much less drama without it lol. Only thing I have now is Instagram. Cause it's really private if you want it to be and easy to keep it the way you want it.
