    Pardon my ignorance.....whats a tangy?

The armoured landrovers. Old shape are called Tangi, and new shape are made by Ovik and called pangolin (after the small mammals with armour). So they get called tangis/pangis.

Hi all any ideas on how quickly the PCA will take place after we get our results? Also could it be put back to a later date if needed?

    Thanks

PCA dates could be out before the results.....hopefully. It's anyone's guess.
I don't imagine they'll have GV empty for too long so if April is the last 1509 intake I'd say they will be quite prompt.

No one really knows. If it is after results, PSNI will probably contact the top of the merit list quickly. But from then on it depends on your list placement.
Less than 9 weeks until results :)
Email says results will be by the 4th so could come sooner (wouldn't hold my breath.)

Can anyone still to do AC help by giving us a rough idea of when the AC finishes. Does anyone have an AC in the second half of April?

The insignia's are absolute garbage and the octavia's don't have any power in them! Should have taken the BMW contract!

Is there such a thing as a driving job in psni?
You can gain various driving qualifications through the PSNI but there's no real driving job per day. Every unit will have its fair share of driving but you'll never be just driving all day every day

I know as part of your CPD file you have to do a basic driving cours , then you have t do a blue light course. Then there is TPAC and Advanced TPAC I believe
Driving course is separate from your Pdp as a probationer. Some people don't even do it for various reasons! Other driving courses are initial pursuit, and then advanced driving and TPAC (tactical pursuit and containment) which you only get by joining specialist units. All good fun!

I have a little question about the PCA. What happens if you hit a cone? Is it a time penalty?

Nik is right. The only penalty involved is the time it takes you to restart the obstacle. There's more than cones to worry about. There's the jump and crawl too. If you're successful at the AC they'll invite you for an orientation day at a location in North Armagh so you know prior to the big day what is expected. On the day you'll know if you ****ed up because your assessor will shout "back" if you've bit something you shouldn't have.

I know a boy who scored 34 at the IST and has his AC in mid-April.

This also released today, these articles actually work in our favour, it can highlight the need for more officers and encourage those on the hill to get together and get more money for the PSNI.

I honestly don't know what magic course can prepare you for that carnage of an AC. I wonder do the course providers go to the AC themselves for a dummy run? If not I would save your money. Just my 2 cents.

That number is down on 1509 when they got 8000+ applications for 300 odd initial positions? I don't know whether that is good or bad.

I wouldn't mind pulling a few overtime shifts if that's what the state is paying in some cases lol.

Lol I haven't been to the AC yet this year.
I did attend one of those courses last year before heading to the AC and to be honest I think the course was setting me up for a fall. They made it sound like it would be simple and straightforward.. and it definitely wasn't! Haven't bothered wasting any money on one this year. I don't think it really matters what course you attend, it all comes down to how you cope on the day...just my thought on it though! BB

I think it's a cash con, to be honest. You see it with many books produced too. Richard Munn for example. Ex-cops know people are desperate to join and I think they're cashing in on it. They've no idea what a Deloitte designed course is going to throw at a candidate. There's only so much generalist advice they can give that can help you, which is largely available on boards.ie I worked with a female colleague who in 1509 went to an AC course. Failed. I passed, never went near a course. She told me she was preparing for scenarios based on the advice she had received and it was out of kilter with what Deloitte had prepared.

Just keep an open mind and try to balance yourself when you go in.

I went to a course not for them to tell me what to do but to practice scenarios with people I didn't know. It's all well and good sitting with a mate or family member in the house going over role plays but it isn't realistic. I personally didn't learn anything from my AC course but it gave me a few hours practicing which is what I wanted.

I'm glad you took something from it but for the price you would have thought you would have learned something....but they can't tell you what they don't know... how much did they charge roughly?

I paid just over £100. I think if it was someones first time it could help but as I've done the AC before I knew roughly what to expect so I just wanted the practice.

I've found the courses can be insightful but not essential to pass the AC, the boards provide a wealth of useful information and if you dig deep enough and you can get just as much information here than you will at the courses. The course I went on was charging £150 which was ridiculous for a one off class in my opinion although like Nik said it is useful to prep for role plays but personally I wouldn't take them again.
