Going by 1509s numbers we could say roughly those roughly in the mid 70s plus have been contacted so far.
I was in the first batch of emails and agree with what you've said. I'm guessing that those contacted already may be the ones who go in the first intake for this recruitment drive but again this is just supposition.[/quote]

I'm one for saying never jump the gun but this sounds like their most likely course of action and makes sense.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to check something out - when we get our results in May will we be given our place on the merit list? Or will we need a FOI request to get it?

    Thanks in advance!

You're given your score, which gives you an idea of how high or low you are compared to others who pass.
You arnt given an actual number on a list as your position can change due to vetting.
Eg you may get the call before someone with a higher score than you because your vetting cleared quick but theirs hasn't cleared yet.

Thanks! Partner has just got a job in civil service so sounds very similar. Cheers again!

    1509 had 14 candidates above 80% and 155 above 70%.

Nik9 counted around 50 give or take the no shows etc at his pca familiarisation (First batch of emails) and i'd say a similar amount will have been in the second batch.

Going by 1509s numbers we could say roughly those roughly in the mid 70s plus have been contacted so far.

Yeah you guys will no doubt be the first intake if the other stages go well. Next week the calls for the final intake of 1509 should go out.

    Then it's all us :D

Do you think the 1710 merit list stands a chance of being completely exhausted like 1509 ? Or do you think they’ll just stick to recruiting 300 ?

If they commit to more regular recruitment campaigns I don't think will be as exhaustive. It's all just a guest though. It might just be a case of suck it and see.

I believe that there was a suspension in recruitment due to "an issue" at GV if memory serves. I'm pretty sure you could try and make  a FOI request come the 4th May if you wanted to know more.
As others have said I don't think anyone knows really. This campaign seems to have been run a little differently from what I can gather too, what with PCA dates being given to some before the 4th May etc.

No FoI required lol. It was on the front cover headline of the Belfast Telegraph.

I think they will be back to 2001-2010 style recruitment. I.e. they will keep taking squads untio the next campaign's list is ready to go.

    Hi guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Passed my A.C., got my email and date for PCA. I hadn't expected to get this far as first time applying. I had booked a holiday for October and I'm worried given the speed of this recruitment campaign in comparison to previous what way this might fall if I hopefully am able to get through to GV.

Yeah man, if your PCA is for the first week in May, all being well with your vetting, medical etc, I would strongly suspect you would be well into GV by then. They give you a day's grace for sickness. Thereafter you're backsquadded AFAIK. As other's will tell you, you need to want this enough to give it total commitment, up and to cancelling holidays.

Seen a wee bargain for anyone who is finding it hard to find time to train or has young kids so cant just leave them to go for a run/to the gym.

Tesco are selling proper spin bikes for £115. Great for doing some low intensity cardio, or to do some HIIT sprints. All while watching your favourite tv show at home lol.

Bought that bike chief! Nice find. Now there are no excuses even on peak times..... if 6 weeks of HIIT isn't enough to pass this PCA then I give up.

How many intakes a year are there at GV?

It’s ultimately depends, GV will normally have intakes every month however if I’m correct there is no intakes over July and December.

    Hey guys,

Seeking some specialist advice. One for all you gym heads out there. Someone recommended taking an 'ECA' stack to enhance my output during training. Ephedrine/Ephedra, Caffeine and Asprin. Friend absolutely swears by it. I'm quite dubious about taking anything however, especially if we are going to be drug tested.

I've done some quick research. Apparently Ephedrine/Ephedra has been an 'illegal' performance enhancing drug in sports, competitive cycling etc ie 'doping' and also apparently it can show as a false positive for amphetamine (which is why I think they ask you to list everything you've ever taken within the last six months, to further investigate and guard against potential false positives at the medical). Ephedrine/Ephedra however, it *isn't* listed as an illicit substance of abuse the PSNI test for during the medical. I'm airing on the side of caution and sticking to high doses of caffeine and taking nothing but I just wanted second opinions on ECA and weather that's helpful in training? Is it fair game do you think?

If it can show up as amphetamine then steer clear. You'd have a hard time convincing them it's just the ECA in your system.

I don't know how fit you are but unless you are a competitive powerlifter and/or strength/power athlete I think the difference between taking an ECA stack and drinking a strong cup of coffee pre training will be negligible in terms of training output.

I've a BMI of 24 and a sedentary, couch potato lifestyle. I've no vices but I feel like someone twice my age who smoked 80 a day after ten minutes of intense workout. I've a few mountains to move before my date!

If you don’t mind me asking maxi, what were your PCA times during 1509?

Down to single digits. I put no work in last time tho. Still too close a shave to take that for granted.

Haha good job. I'm going to order 1 next week when i get paid. I have enough to keep me busy at the min. With my PCA so close it wouldn't help me any with it but it's still a good way of training and helping stay in shape. Plus good for anyone to lose a few lb for medical lol.

Honestly just beast yourself until you think your gonna spew and your heart explode then keep going that little bit more.

Its that little bit more that will increase your fitness. Interval sprints are fantastic to keep that heart rate racing for as long as possible.

Worked for me when I was training for scotlands 9.2 bleep requirement at the time.

And to think the Met have something like 5.4 requirement... Speaks volumes really. There was a part of an online learning module in 1509 that made reference to the importance of an Officer's fit professional image and how overweight or out of shape police officers feed into negative public perceptions. I recall they used a photo 40 stone American police officer eating doughnuts to illustrate the point lol.

I read previously that the PCA was initially a thing they did at the end of GV and simply having a healthy BMI was enough to get into the police?

This time last year they reduced Scotlands fitness requirment to 5.4 to be in line with Englandshire which quite literally, you could hop backwards.

One of many changes why I am looking back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 ldngal18

I think part of the PSNI's requirement for higher fitness levels is due to the fact that it is an armed force - other forces that are routinely armed such as the MOD Police and CNC also have higher fitness requirements than 5.4 .I believe CNC is 8.6 on the bleep test or similar.

When you think about how many petty criminals have spent their lives running from the authorities as apart of their lifestyle, slow cops won't help matters. It's interesting you want back. The consensus seems to be that response in GB forces is x10 better than the response gig with the PSNI. I know many English forces have police investigations officers that follow up with statements etc? Is that the case in Scotland? If the PSNI were to adopt a similar approach I've heard it would improve morale among the rank and file.
