I have 3 labels that don't work and 37.50 in credit. I paid through PayPal and put Ina claim a couple of weeks back. Looks like they are not even going to reply to my claim so I'd say I'll get refunded.

I still have credit on my parcel Motel account 😠. Had to top up by a set fee when I was sending my last parcel. You can usually choose how much you want to top up by but not this time. Did contact them about it but got no reply. I paid via PayPal. Worth looking for it back via them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,083 ✭✭✭Peig Sayers

Me too. Contacted them about it when I was unable to pay for a single charge and had to top up by a set amount. No reply. This happened three weeks ago. Their contact us page hasn't been in operation for a long time. Should have seen it coming.

I got no email regarding the closure, only read about it in the news so that's how I found out.

I have almost €20 credit there. I'm pretty sure they have to return all that money to everyone. No way they are allowed to keep it. If no reply from them regrading this I'll be contacting the European consumer centre. They were able to help me last year and through them I was able to get €12 back from one business (German clothing e-shop) that was giving me hassle when I returned some items to them and they just wouldn't refund one item.

I haven't used parcel motel in almost a year. I used it alot at the beginning but then with Brexit, things changed with not having a UK address.

But I do have a balance on my account. I thought about using up the credit but then reading reviews online and people have got parcels undelivered since before Christmas, so not sure about getting parcels delivered now.

Found an email online but not sure about that either because apparently their customer service is rubbish as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭Diabhalta

I would suggest everyone to take a screenshot of the credit balance + transaction history. If no reply for some time I would then suggest to contact UPS. If no reply also then European consumer centre and they will do something about it.

Just seen this posted on FaceBook.

January 25th is the last day customers can send a parcel to an address or make a return.

January 27th is the last day for Irish Virtual Address check-in.

Customers who still have money in their Parcel Motel accounts are being advised to email parcelmotelsupport@ups.com or phone 01 8835400.

  • Registered Users Posts: 955 ✭✭✭Poncke

The way this is handled is madness. The PM website does not mention anything about this cease to exist news. The UPS website has no news about it either. You are given a 17 day notice to use up your balance. Worse yet, retailers and suppliers, etc. that rely on this service only have 2 weeks to find another service. There is no info about getting your balance refunded. And this is UPS, I thought they were an established reputable company, I guess not.

    Thanks.

Why the feck don't they ad that to their email?! Why post that on Facebook where it reaches the odd person. Who runs their customer service? A horse?

Just sent an email to parcelmotelsupport@ups.com and received an automated reply with a case number, so at least I am now a creditor in their system. I shall get my 11 euro back !!

I'm in exact same situation... Topped up via PayPal as it wouldn't accept my card. No clue where my package is now as they said I needed to top up. A bad week to use parcel. Motel for first time since 2020..

They must have made a fortune from online shopping from the UK. I used them but could never consider them reliable. Customers should not have to chase ' lost ' parcels and their webpage interaction was poor. In my home town they gave us the lockers for about a year and then took them away. Brexit was always going to sink them otherwise they would have to get into opening the parcels ( to charge Customs duties ) like Addresspal does and that was a bridge too far. A good idea in it's time but poor management and Brexit destroyed the business plan.

Parcel Motel, aka UPS are no longer answering calls on 01 8835400 after telling people on Newstalk to call it. Its just a badly recorded voicemail telling you to contact parcelmotelsupport@ups.com which I've just done.

Calling UPS's number gets you to their outsourced bottom of the barrel support team of incompetents who claim they know nothing about the service closing down (or their own services it seems) and who are telling me the parcel I sent on 09/01 via Parcel Motel is untraceable by them even though it has a UPS tracking number.

At least with PM gone nobody will have to deal with UPS's outsourced support which is the worst I've ever dealt with. I've used PM since they opened and it was great but as soon as I heard UPS were taking over it sent shivers down my spine. UPS's 1.2 score on Trustpilot should tell you PM were doomed once UPS took them over irrespective of Brexit or other unfavourable conditions. No wonder they've been losing contracts.

If and when they refund any outstanding credit balance, how will that work for accounts that no longer have cards attached?

I used to just top-up using Paypal so I presume they would refund back to Paypal in that case.

Feck all people used it. That's why it's closing.

Very very few people will be affected.

Both an post and dpd give you an option for a different day delivery, so virtually no advantage for PM anymore

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭up4dabah

They don't respond to that email any longer. I'd be concerned about people trying to claim back old credit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 955 ✭✭✭Poncke

I didn't question why it was closing

And there's more than one reason why people used parcel motel

How about those of us who for whatever reason want a specific package held (eg a present for The Person Who Always Gets The Post For The House) offsite for collection?

I haven't used them in a while but when I checked my account, I saw i had about 8 Euro's in credit.

I presume all similar credit will be automatically returned to customers ? Ther's NO mention of how anyone can Cancel their account or about refunds ?

This is disappointing as generally speaking it was a handy service and much cheaper than An Post. I just tried a quote from UPS for a 1kg small package shipping within the 26 counties. Cheapest option was 2 day service for €11.97 .... this would have been €6.50 with Parcel Motel , and is €9 with An Post. Looks like I won't be using UPS.

Anybody got recommendations for something similar.
