Delighted to have been sent an email for dispatch interviews.
Sadly I'm crossing my fingers for a date change. As much as I'd love to be able to rearrange my plans, its simply not possible; so fingers crossed someone else needs a change and Grafton can accommodate it!

Hey guys, just a side note from ASO and Dispatcher roles; Is it possible to transfer to the PSNI from other forces? Specifically non-home office forces

No bud. They dont even let home office forces transfer anymore for constables. Think it's only officers(rank) who are able to apply for a transfer.
You thinking of going MODP, CNC, airport police or harbour police?

Just re-read the email, (still can't quite believe it lol) and saw you had to email to confirm attendance - so glad I did!
I'm wondering why the extra numbers being interviewed though? Any boarders that have passed from the first wave of interviews out there? Or do they know yet?

I am basically in the MDP, just waiting for my SC and DV security clearance to go through and then a start date. Shame that they don’t allow any transfers, just have to apply normally again when the time comes that I want to move home! Anyone thinking of MDP I can help with questions if there are any out there

After your probations upnyou should apply for the NI detachments. Aldergrove and Palace have modplod detachments. I think palace is a CID one though.

Only Aldergrove is MDP protected now! Also, they work very differently in terms of probations and placements; it is almost impossible for me to get a space in aldergrove and they are reluctant to place anyone there due to the demand for officers in their busier sites on the mainland. In MDP we have the option to specialise into Dogs, marine, TSG or SEG straight away after training (all MDP officers are firearms officers by standard so it isn’t a specialisation in itself), Aldergrove has no specialisation opportunities which means the role is a basic guard duty role which is quite frankly kinda boring

Hey man I’ve just served a year in the MDP before that I was met for two years I thought getting experience would help me get into a police force back home which it hasn’t lol tried psni 5 times keeping failing the exam , failed interview for harbour police and just failed the airport police one their but lucky enough I’m now in the operations and fire and rescue service for the airport haha when I left the MDP one month later they where looking two officers for three month detached duty to nothern Ireland for the DCPO role. So it is possible also my northern Irish friend who is currently serving MDP he’s about a year in and is getting a transfer to the Northern Ireland guard service. So that might be an option for you if your looking to get home.

They're paid like 16K a year though... That must be some quare pay cut from the MDP. You'd get that at a supermarket.

They don't get, they get between 19-20 and 3 on 5 off. Most have 2nd jobs lol

Guy I worked with left 2 months ago and is in training with the NIGS now. Wouldn't want it as a career but a great job to retire with, to supplement pension etc.

True but evens out really I was spending a lot on rent and flying home on days off to see the woman and after two years at the airport goes up to 30 grand so will do for mean time haha good thing about MDP is easy job and the overtime is unlimited , pay is decent too pension is alright. Bad thing you don’t do much police work I was stationed at coulport for a year dealt with nothing (nothing like the Met lol) haha but Clyde station can be a bit busy just hit or miss.
But don’t let that put you off Im just to much off a home bird to spend any more time working away.

Coulport was actually one of my three preferences and during the interview the guy said that they have a very small amount of officers there, no specialisation opportunities and is basically just guard duty at a gate, even said himself that it’s boring...

Of course the PSNI is my end goal, always will be, but I don’t know whether I should go for the MDP in the meantime and move away or else stay here and work another job until I get into the PSNI

I really don't mean to bring a downer but PSNI isn't guaranteed. It could take 1 year or 10. I first applied back in 2014. And only starting GV in Aug. So 4 years for me. Years in another force could do wonders for you aswell as the training. Rather than working a normal job.

Of course, I know it isn’t guaranteed but I am quite young and have the will and motivation to believe that one day I will get it. It is more the fact that I have to uproot and leave to do it, If the role was guaranteed to be here in NI then I would snap it up in a heartbeat but I have all my friends, family and my other half (who is in uni and can’t move) over here so I would be leaving everything behind for something that I don’t plan on spending the rest of my life on... I’m not sure if it makes sense to do so

I made the jump across the pond at 23 to join a mainland force and luckily my partner came with me. I know a few others who made the move themselves and after a while it got really difficult for them on rest days etc on their own. All the time.

My advice would be put extra thought into how you would manage on your own/long distance relationship. As Nik9 said it is a possibility you will not be successful in the next campaign etc however you will increase your chances to get in. They may open for direct transfers in the future which will be another pathway under your belt.

That’s it, work days will be all good because I am kept busy but on my rest days then it is going to be difficult... With the SEG specialisation that I want to do it means that I could be on the road for weeks at a time which also means that the house/flat that I am paying for over in the mainland is empty for weeks at a time because I am out on the road working... I really feel stuck between a rock and a hard place!

And yeah I completely understand that I may not get into the PSNI on the next campaign but I mean that I feel like I will eventually! Apologies Nik9 if that is what you meant but I thought you meant about not getting in at all and not just in the next campaign. I may well never get in but I will be applying from now until I am at the upper age limit in every campaign to give myself the best opportunity that I can to get the job that I crave so badly.

Nothing like finding the best waiting room to be in before you get your dream job.

Police staff is my waiting room and so all stops are coming out for Dispatch. MDP is yours Lockie. Give 100% chin up and watch your confidence grow.

Bearing in mind you have now secured yourself a good job with good pay. Open that help to buy ISA save like **** and by the time you get into the PSNI you'll be able to buy a house as well lol.

The last time NISGS advertised it was in and around 16k per annum 4 on and 4 off. Given that you would be working a rota basis including night shifts how could you even find a second job??

Bank hours or Agency in Hospital/care home/kids home .

Loads of serving CDOs and NISGS worked with me when I worked in the kids homes

Remember 4 on 4 off gives a 20% of salary shift allowance so 16k becomes 19 before over time

That's why it's nearly all ex military, serving reservists, or ex police that do it. Peoole who are already receiving their pensions etc. It's deff a job to have during/ coming up to retirement.
