Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This nonsense from the RTE commentators trying to pretend they are familiar with players whose names they can't even pronounce is embarrassing.

Ray Houghton waffling on about what some lad from Zamalek and what he usually does for his team...Ray, you never heard of him before today I'm sure.

    Brian Kerr's familiar.

    Morocco started strongly.

Fcuking vuvuzelas, head melted already, Morocco showing they can spray it about a bit

I was hoping we had seen the end of them.

I presume like most channels that they use researchers or someone to do it for them. They can hardly say Elneny passes it to Hamed who plays for some team in Egypt.
There isn't many pundits that cover 2 continents never mind stuff like the Egyptian, Iranian or other obscure leagues.

I'm not really talking about facts like that.

I'm more talking about commentators pretending they are familiar with a particular (relatively obscure) player's style of play, attributes, etc.

    Big chance.

What's the story with the vuvuzelas? Making this match nigh on unwatchable and there wasn't any sound of them at the other two games, Morocco fans bring them or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Those Moroccans have incredible lung capacity to sustain that level of vuvezela blowing. Don’t think they’ve stopped since half time!

A draw won't do either side.

One for the hot lass thread.

Brian Kerr on one side and Glenn Hoddle on the other. Talk about a double whammy!
    :o

My apologies; it's not Hoddle (I think).

    Great ball. Bad defending

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Ah no, my prediction was a draw.

    Lovely header though.

Iran robbed that. Some howler of an own goal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Spain actually have too much depth.

I still hate this countdown-to-kickoff nonsense...

Played for that anyway. Very soft pen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ronaldo diving as ever. Another goal from the penalty spot. Really difficult that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,849 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Ronaldo has become the fourth player to score in four World Cups, following Uwe Seeler, Pele and Miroslav Klose

Did you not see the tackle?

Why doesn't VAR advise the ref on that?

Can't really argue with the decision, definitely a penalty

Because the ref saw it himself?

It's a dive and a pen. If players don't go down for those they don't get them and they're fouls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Is Carvajal injured, odd decision if not.

Can't understand those thinking it wasn't a penalty.

Took it well too, didn't let the delay or De Gea get to him.

Hopefully a few more goals after that early one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

Surely Nacho would be more cautious anyway since he plays alongside him at Madrid..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,804 ✭✭✭Rezident

Is diving just allowed in football now? Not even enough contact to slow Ronaldo but he dives and gets a world cup goal for it. Poor defending but Ronaldo clearly dived. Again.

    In modern game a peno.

He neither went for ball or didn't

Ronnie too good for that move

Have people not seen the replay or is it just spite for ronaldo

    Pure Spite.

Or a lack of understanding as to how penalties are awarded. It was stonewall.

Real player fouls Real player who scores against Spain...Real really aren't winning over hearts and minds around Spain this week...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

People need to realise that if a fouled player exaggerates the incident it does not mean it was not a foul in the first place.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Iniesta in the J league next season, look forward to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,019 ✭✭✭✭adox

    Yeah stonewall peno for me.

Yeah still injured from CL final. Dunno why Azpilicueta didn't start.

How on Earth is nacho playing ahead of carvajal and azpilicueta!? Hierro just HAD to make a change didn't he!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

Never understood why Ronaldo is let take free kicks. Its a performance piece more than an attempt to score.
