Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The problem with VAR is it's still down to the referee's discretion to use it , If he thinks it's not a penalty he won't bother with VAR which is obviously what's gone on here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Cant blame the ref for Var decisions. His watch vibrates or something when var call a decision. It didnt so he made the call and will get all the stick for it

Theres actually 4 or 5 lads in the var room all looking at screens and didnt call it. Its says it all there

Keeper has been great for Iceland today.

They have great team spirit in general.

They are 1 well drilled in team, they'd go another 90 now no bother. Would likr to see them do well

Couldn’t channel his inner Ronaldo for that free kick.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he did for all his free kicks today.

Argentina have actually been better than I expected against a decent Iceland team. Probably deserved to win the game. Still I’m happy they didn’t as I’m still p***ed off that Icardi has been overlooked yet again for non football reasons imo.

Well done Iceland. They are a tough team, shows that a team effort can take on the best players in the world and be successful.

Seems be an awful lot of injury time in thr games so far especially 5 plus minutes.

Wonder is there any perticular reason causing it.

    One all draw as predicted.

Added time, and I think they are actually adding it up correctly for once.

I've noticed a lot of stoppages as well players going down breaking up play.

I'd want more from my captain tbh. Standing still the entire game and not making any effort to exert an influence on proceedings isn't for me. Bad enough against Iceland but he'll be a complete passenger if Argentina come up against the likes of Spain. When they lose the ball he acts like its nothing to do with him.

He'd be far more effective against Spain when it isn't just 9 players backed up in front of him whenever he gets it.

Always been a bugbear of mine that 'foreign' refs don't seem to add on the correct amount, seem some ridiculous '2 minutes' in CL games.
Maybe Collina has directed the refs on how to do it properly.

Ronaldo is a better leader than Messi especially in the last few years.

This competition is huge for both player's legacy.

Both are the 2 Greatest players of all time no matter what happens but last few years Ronaldo has edged ahead.

I though Andrews made a good point about Ronaldo being ahead of his time. His 24/7 dedication to gym work, recovery, individual training etc was years ahead of a footballer now who implemented some of these things to their own game.

Shortly we will get to see the man that should be managing Argentina imo.

Ricardo Gareca has done a fantastic job with Peru. The football you will see today is entertaining and effective. They will give Denmark a run for their money. I think there is a chance they could nick the win.

This team is like Iceland in a way in that they are greater together than the sum of their parts would suggest they should be.

I'd love to see them get through the group stage and maybe, just maybe Gareca would be offered the job that should imo be his already.

I've been going on about this(Gareca) for a long time now. He is not well known in Europe so not many people make a comment on it.

Very tight games so far bar the opener. Draws and wins by a solitary goal for the rest.

Uruguay would be up there, though with a bigger population.

    ****e 1-0 Denmark.

Peru don't deserve to be behind. They could be winning if they'd more composure.

Denmark hanging on here, but the Peruvian's end product isn't up too much.

Used to live with a Peruvian lad who was great craic so I'm cheering them on. Unfortunately that Cuevas fella did a pretty accurate Zaza impersonation.
