Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yet another clear penalty not given and not even referred to VAR.

Germany’s defence looks fragile again. Counter attack’s could catch them out!!!

Exactly the type of scenario it's designed for too, either use it right or don't use it at all , because it looks like favouritism, even if it's not.

Stupid pass from kroos to start that. What was he thinking. Just play it out to the player out wide in space. Gob****e.

Defense clearly is just not suited to the system they are trying to play.

Until they develop proper procedures for using it, it’s going to be a shambles.

Either only the referee can request it because he hasn’t seen something, or they have to get all the relevant calls from the booth.

You can’t have the booth advising the referee sometimes and then not others, because that just screams potential for unfairness.

Kroos was terrible there. Gave away the ball & moved with the speed of an iceberg after Toivenen who's hardly a Mane.

Superb finish it has to be said

    Great finish.

They really should just make it a rule that you can't challenge with a keeper for a high ball instead of pretending you can.

It's ridiculous. The keeper has the advantage of being able to use his hands but if an outfield player jumps near them it's a free out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Brilliant save from Neuer right at the death. Germany would have been finished had that gone in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Bit late but they'd have been better off bringing on Goretzka than Gundogan.

Loving the names of some of these players.

    Hector
    Rudiger
Anders Granqvist the former Wigan man
    Gundogan the Man City man
Ola Toivanen who once played with Sunderland of course

Gomez height has changed things for the Swedish defense. Just the fact that they now have to worry about aerial ability makes it harder for them to defend.

And also showing some sort of presence out left.

Does Boateng know how to defend?
What the he'll was that he was trying.
Germany should bring on Brandt for Muller & consider keeping it that way vs S. Korea

Boateng has been woeful tonight. The ref's done him a favour there.

Have to laugh the last few years at all the ex pros who would go through players for fun when playing calling for lads to be sent off for very little when they know full well the guy rolling around on the ground is grand.

Poor header. That has to go to the corner. Straight at him.

    Gggggggooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaalllllllll.

I'll be honest, I thought they were going to do some stupid crap and not even get the ball, in to th who's.

He owed that after his dick ball in the first half.

Football's a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball, and in the end, the Germans always win.

Low made serious subs and made a huge difference. Had the balls to take off a defender when down to 10 men and it paid off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,665 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

    What a strike.

    Fcking hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,977 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The Germans are so tough. Kroos was their best player on the night imo and that was a great strike for the goal. I don't really feel sorry for Sweden because even with an extra man they sat deeper and deeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

So Germany beat korea 1-0 and Sweden beat Mexico 1-0 leaves all 3 on 6 points and +1 gd. There's no head to head is there ? Gd then i assume goals scored?

  • Registered Users Posts: 607 ✭✭✭Pete Moss

The balls on Kroos to go for that. Would've been much easier to put it in the box and make it someone else's problem. Schtones.

Sweden looked out in their feet after 70mins, was surprised they held out so long even with a man advantage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

That goal has left Mexico having to play full team. I presume Head to Head only counts if equal goal difference. Germany might thump South Korea which means Mexico can’t lose!!!! Imagine them drawing 0-0 with 20 mins to go and end up going out after leading the group for most of the tournament!!

He was at fault for the Sweden goal. But stood up far more in the second half especially when nothing went right for Gundogan beside him.
Need to start Brandt & Goretzka. Muller hasnt done anything to keep his place. Pity they haven't another good striker as Werner was better in a free role & Gomez was a perfect foil for Granquist type defending.
Boateng & Rudiger were there for the taking but Sweden weren't positive enough especially against 10 men.

Korea need to beat Mexico by 2 to finish ahead of them right? Because goals scored?

If not for injury time goals we would be looking at Argentina, Brazil and Germany all with one foot out the door. OK less so Brazil, but they would have had to have beaten Serbia without the win the other day.

Yeh but they would need Mexico to beat Sweden. Would be hilarious but Leicester city winning league level craziness!!!

    Keano on Boateng

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

The Germans attacked really poorly but got through on sheer volume and determination.

If they can gain a little confidence and trust in the overlaps and balls in behind they were showing in the early game, there's no reason why they can't at least sort their attack out.

Maybe bring Brandt in for Mueller and keep him and Reus wider, as well as maybe bringing in another body in midfield so Kroos can join the attack more freely.

They're not far off being good but they just seem really mentally fragile, Big Balls Tony notwithstanding.

those three teams have given England the most heartache in the world cup over the last 30 years. I was thinking when the clock hit 90 mins (when Germany were as good as out) that English fans might start thinking it might be there year!!!
