Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've liked VAR but one thing I think they need to bring in alongside it is either banning all players other than the Captain, or only allowing 1 player at a time allowed to approach the ref.

The Portugal/Iran game has been farcical at times with Iran in particular being incredibly aggressive in trying to put pressure on him.

    the ugly side of VAR.

There will be that much extra time on this match it'll still be playing tomorrow :pac:

    Penalty for Iran holy crap!

Which meant Ronaldo couldn't land his intended elbow cleanly on the chin. It was as bad as his performance tonight.

:pac: he wanted to kill him aye.

Spain have equalised so this penalty is huge for top spot.

This is crazy stuff. VAR a shambles in the wrong hands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Madness. Never a penalty. Ref only looked at 1 angle of the penalty on VAR. Shocking stuff.

Never a penalty, but **** me that was one of the best penalties I've ever seen.

So VAR is about as reliable as a good old fashioned pair of eyes in real time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

What a miss. Iran should be ahead and Portugal would be out

    What a chance...

Well if you whinge for every single thing demanding VAR you will get the result.

OMG, I thought Iran had done it!

Regardless of it being a peno or not, the finish from the spot was sublime. He buried it up top, no keeper would've got that.

Iran trying to goad the GOAT lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,507 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

I have Spain backed to win it out, but it still it bemuses me with all the vitriol spewed Ramos' way that Pique seems to get away scot-free. Gave away the silly free-kick that Ronaldo scored, nut-megged vs Iran that almost led to a goal and could have easily seen red for his lunge tonight. Thats not to mention his political activism and genaral regression in the game. Odious player

    Entertaining stuff that.

Glad to see the back of Iran tbh. Like Panama, the moaning and surrounding the ref was nauseating.

Portugal should be out. That miss at the end! :(

Glad Iranians didn't get through. For all the crap that go the way of Brazil, Portugal etc for play acting, the so called 'plucky' teams are just as childish. The whole calling for VAR thing needs to be reviewed and any player looking for it should be booked but FIFA have gone down the rabbit hole with the introduction of it in this guise.

Brady gone full conspiracy theory. He sounds crazy

Wow. The ref earned his coin in that match. Really think the guys in Moscow need to be more careful with referring decisions.

If 5 guys are telling you to review your choice, it must be incredibly tough to say No, I was right with my view you're all wrong despite your 20 camera angles

He's probably right. World Cups eclipse any football competition in terms of dodgy officiating & I watch the African Cup of Nations

Brady and the Illuminati! Tbf he's probably partially true but he does sound a bit bonkers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭NoviGlitzko

Was never a penalty but as soon it went to VAR I was 100% certain it was gonna be a given at the end. What a joke. Brady is right too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

VAR is a shambles, but it certainly adds to the entertainment, drama and tension imo. Long may it stay, without being refined

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Never in a million years is that a peno madness from the ref

Apres Match should do a Brady sketch with him wearing a tinfoil hat and talking about conspiracies through the ages. If it happens, I want commission. :p

Well if he didn't keep seeing "cheating" at every moment that mightnt be an issue.

Then he should probably go with the Big Brother suggestion over football... although I hear there does be cheating of a different kind on that.

I still think VAR has a future despite the teething problems. It was awful in tonight’s game and allowing players to dictate when the ref should review is madness.

However look at the Spanish equalizer. Incorrectly called offside by the line side and it took VAR to correctly give the goal.

It is a bit shambolic in its current form but I think there’s enough there for it to be continued with.

I don’t think the ref should be th decision maker once it is used. The panel should decide.

Big Brother's a pile of $h1t. Ronaldo would fit in well there with people like that.

yeah I think VAR will solve more problems than it creates but it's hilarious when it goes wrong...…. and your team's not involved

RTE unanimous that Ronaldo should’ve got red. I agree. Yellow was a cop out

It’s beyond debate. And they’re right too that they wanted to keep Ronaldo in the WC - had it been a two bit left back, it would’ve been the red card the offence merited.
