Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pity Korea weren’t in with a shout going into this game. Very likeable side.

Where on Earth is the ref getting nearly 9 minutes of injury time?

They were, and they’d be going through if the Mexico Sweden result was the other way around. :(

Sane must be gutted, but also thinking that he dodged a bullet. His exclusion was baffling.

The winners curse strikes again. That’s the last three World Cup winners out in the group stages.

You'd have to wonder what the Koreans were celebrating. This is a country that got to a semi final in 2002. They're off home too.
    Germany pure dogsh1t.
Lowe will have to find somewhere else to pick his nose in future after that.

    Glazers Out!

Those six minutes justified VAR being here for good on their own, unbelievable from the officials between the added time and offside call.

Off the top of my head that has to be the most surprising group stage knockout of my lifetime.

Korean lad got a whack in the goolies, plus 2 goals in injury time, VAR, etc

Spain getting knocked out in 2014 group stages was a bit of a shock as well...the only got three point and beat australia....

    No.

    Yes.

Bit of a shocker but it seems to happen fairly often these days. Betting against the favorites is working out well in this World Cup.

It's all down to the astute leadership of Kim Jong Un.

Even though he's the ruler of North Korea, his inspirational messages and sheer tactical nous have rubbed off on the South.

    I love The Leader.

If Ireland were there in that position I wouldn't want to see our players celebrating that.

4 out of the last 5 tournaments, with France famously scoring 0 goals and finishing bottom of group A in 2002. Brazil the only team to make it through as reigning champions in my lifetime (I'm 31). Crazy stat!

So the conclusion is that in the long run it's better for teams not to win a World Cup.

    Never believe the hype kids.

Had a Spain to win/Timo Werner Golden Boot double, as I fancied Germany to knock a few in in the group stages. Spain will win the goddamn thing now.

That stat about the performance of defending champions is startling though. Almost as ominous as the fate of PL-winning managers the following season.

See that's annoying, the Serbian player gets kicked in the head, free kick, gets on with it, no yellow. Neymar gets fouled, tumbles around like he's auditioning for a Laya Healthcare ad, the Serbian player gets booked.

  • Nice finish
    Poor defending tho
