Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nah #15 is Joao Mario twice now.

Ronaldo has been dog****e so expect him to score soon and then tap in the winning penalty later on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,695 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Patricio was a step or two too close to his near post. It was a class finish but wasn't actually that close to the corner. Maybe Cavani spotted him a bit out of position.

Hopefully it’s not too serious and he’s alright for the next game if they do go through. Didn’t look good though.

The amount of times Portugal have spurned a decent crossing chance to try, and then fail, to work a better one.

Suarez' two assists are a lot more valuable than Ronald's gloryhunting

That Godin one is a penalty right? I mean, he doesn't get in between the player and the ball or anything like that, he just runs into him.

Uruguay left back has been excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,695 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Interesting to watch Suarez...he has no interest in going for a 3rd goal, it's all about just slowing it down and keeping it up the Portuguese end.

Jesus, Ronaldo doesn't entertain the possibility of there very being another option but him shooting.

He usually plays higher up the pitch. He’s a natural winger

The free wasn’t to do with the leg tackle it’s self, he came across and impeded him with his arms

Not always pretty but very entertaining. Delighted for Cavani, hope that’s not the end of his WC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Good riddance to Ronaldo and Pepe. Ronaldo had another stinker. Delighted for Uruguay, by far the better team. You never know how far they might go. They need Cavani not to be injured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Uruguay do what they do. Portugal a bit unlucky, they fell asleep and conceded that 2nd goal, which was a fantastic finish. Thought only 1 team would have won it after Pepe's goal. Poor decision making around the box from Portugal as well when in decent positions.

They weren't amazing and could struggle without Cavani who improved massively since the group games.
Uruguay bet the farm on Portugal being one dimensional and we're proven right.

Ronaldo going home but not before he gets a yellow for nearly headbutting the ref when shouting at him. Seems about right for him.

Messi and Ronaldo out of the competition on the same day, at least one of them made an impact today though, didn’t see a whole lot of quality from the “GOAT” in the game just finished. :pac:

Barely, the defender has the right to make a challenge and a player throwing himself on the ground isn't going to help his cause. Quaresma made a meal of it, had he reacted without the histrionics he may have gotten a free but it wasn't a cut and dry foul by any means.

Brilliant stuff from Uruguay population smaller than Ireland and they regularly overachieve. Its also good to have a S American rather than another European team remain in the competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,561 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Uruguay are a great defensive unit, but they're helped in a huge way by being allowed away with murder by the referee. No idea how they finished that game without a yellow card, given the amount of cynical fouls in the first half, and the Godin one is a penalty.

Think France will dispose of them with relative ease.

Delighted to see Portugal out portugaled. Their luck was bound to run out.

Portugal created plenty of chances but the strikers were way too static. Ronaldo was strolling around like it was a dead rubber and when he got the ball he just booted it in the general area of the goal.

Suarez, for all his diving, at least he looked to move the ball and work with his team to create chances, and he had support, notably Cavani, and others ran with them and worked hard.

Uruguay look a lot like the German team 4 years ago.
