Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why isn't that a red card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,167 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Henderson rubbed on the chest. Goes down as if uppercut by Muhammad Ali.

    Baffling!

Need to add about three minutes of 'injury time' for that free alone...

Serious question; why do you let the more simplistic sections of the English media influence what you think of the team? It's not our players' fault what the media write/broadcast. Actually, I'd guess that the likes of Southgate, Kane, Stones, Henderson etc could do without some of the more jingoistic utterings in the redtops.

I totally agree - and I don't want to be influenced like this. I want to support them. i came into the tournament actively telling myself I was going to wish them well. I genuinely like almost all their players. But when it comes to sitting down and watching it, I just don't feel it :-/

    Two pretty average teams here

And that wall wasn't behind the white line. If that's going to be the case, why bother with the line at all?

Have seen red given for less but Henderson delayed reaction was farcical...

  • Registered Users Posts: 723 ✭✭✭PhilipsR

Jesus Christ the referee is awful. Asserting absolutely no power at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,702 ✭✭✭Glebee

Colombia coming across as a very unlikeable team. Should have been a red card. All England so far.

Yeah if Neymar went down like that nobody would be talking about red cards. Even if they might be justified under the laws of the game...

He did get a head to the chin in fairness. I really can't see how he didn't give a red there.

Sterling pulling Mina's shorts, Sterling appeals for something?

I~ see you went good run and not win:pac:

I do like Southgate seems grounded

Haha I would prefer Croatia or France to win it but after that England would be my choice from the rest. Swedes too but don't think they have it in them.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. For me, anyway. Nothing in it.

    I shouldn't, but I tittered!

Fairly average first half. England having more of the ball in the middle and holding on to it for longer, but no real chances at all.

Both sides look like they don't fancy their chances of coming from behind.

It wasn’t really a headbutt. They’re both jostling and yer man swings his head around and catches him in the chin. Don’t think he meant to do that.

    Handbags.

I reckon that France v Denmark bore fest is going to be the only 0-0 of the tournament.

    Spoke too soon?

Even if it doesn't happen tonight I wouldn't rule it out in any of the qfs bar Brazil Belgium...

That half won't live long in the memory. As an England fan, it's a bit worrying how quiet Falcao and Cuadrado (spelling?) have been. They'll hardly be that quiet again in the second half.
    :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,025 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Honestly think they'd be better off with Loftus-Cheek on in place of Dele. Hold it for just a beat longer in midfield, and have Sterling and Lingard make runs across each other to make a bit of space.

WTF was that Colombian coach (?) doing there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

The more they show it, the more it’s a clear red.

Should have been a red card but why is Henderson holding his face?

Because he wants the lad who headbutted him sent off, obviously.

It's an obvious red card. Deliberate movement of his head up towards Henderson's chin. What was VAR doing there?

He got the top of your man's head into his jaw in a uppercut motion, can people not see it or what?

    Clear as day

Jesus the red card wasn’t given, time to move on.

Is that the only way England think they can win?

He’s a bit of a drama queen. Glad nothing major came of it in the end.

VAR only counts for so much when they don’t want to make decisions. If the conversations were recorded and therefore transparent there’d be less problems.

    I never said they lied.

It was just a dour looking whinge fest!

Missed the 1st half but just seen the indecent and it's definitely a red. They seem to be saying on ITV that the ref didn't go to view it on the sideline. Why? How could he be so sure it's not a red without reviewing?

Did you read my post? I said it should have been a red card. But he hits his chin, Henderson puts two hands on his face.

The quality of this side of the draw is there in the games Russia-Spain, Croatia-Denmark & Sweden-Swiss were not enthralling .

Was that the manager shouldering Sterling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

It wouldn't surprise me if Alli lost his rag sometime in the second half. He has a short fuse, and I'd be amazed if the Colombians didn't target him. He needs to keep his head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,399 ✭✭✭✭ThunbergsAreGo

It would suit England if Colombia actually tried to attack in a meaningful manner

No. A member of the backroom staff.

The lack of James has killed this match. Colombia are clueless without him and England not good enough to make chances.
