Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Best you've seen?

A team with an awful midfield and 3 of the ropiest defenders you're likely to see?

Best team is what I've said and their results are proving that aren't they ?

They have had better players no doubt but they never played this well while I've been watching football.

He said best as a team and I'd agree. They are well organised and all know their roles. They've had way better squads but never a team game like this in donkeys years.

Sorry now mate. I'm fully on board the "it's coming home" bandwagon but never played this well? I don't see it atall, I see a team somehow just doing enough every game, even the Panama game they didn't play great football.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

These Russians' energy levels at this point in the game are just superhuman! :pac:

Modric has been sublime in this game, on a different level to everybody else on the pitch.

Just doing enough may well win them another world cup

I'd say Portugal team that won the Euros will probably go down as their best team ever even though they weren't great during the tournament and had better squads over the years.

The sheer dogged refusal to give up. A team I've never seen the likes of before. Real sense of the National Project off them. Fabulous.

Outrageous! How the heck! What is with this Russian team?!

How mobile will subasic be getting across his line. He's looked ok but wonder on his first spring how that leg will hold up.

Im on about the "never played this well" my point is they aren't playing well at all. The keeper got man of the match today. They're just doing enough to win which is of course a better trait to have than playing well and losing

Nothing. Nothing at all. They just happen to be playing with all the energy of a newly promoted team on the opening day of the season, having played 235 minutes in the last week. Perfectly normal, now carry alone. :D

Well I'd want Modric's drugs personally.

Don't underestimate national pride and the phenomenal support they are receiving

Russia have Putin to thank for that goal.

    https://thebangladeshtoday.com/2018/07/01/putin-grants-russian-citizenship-to-brazilian-soccer-player-fernandes/

He granted Mario Fernandes Russian Citizenship by presidential decree

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I don't mean in terms of entertainment wise i meant results wise.

Results are all that will be remembered down the line.

I think the only thing that can stop the dead ball specialists is Mother Russia, hope they get through this.

There's a long history of home nations doing well.

Always good for the tournament imo.

    A win for football.

    A loss for doping.

And a hell of a tense shootout!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,976 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I'm gutted and to think that Akinfeev was so unlucky with Modric's penalty.

  • Delighted for Modric

The best player left in the tournament

Have you proof they were doping? Have you proof that others aren't.
    If you don't then GTFO.

Croatia had as much energy as Russia.

    Are they doping too?

Nah I'm sure a football nations previously known for being somewhat lethargic just magically picked up tonnes and tonnes of energy, running around in the 240 minutes of play like a newly promoted team in the first half of a season opener.

They were doping, just like their Olympians. Now they're gone. Football won, and that's a good thing.

Croatia were out on their feet through injury time. Russia were playing like the game was just 5 minutes in, sprinting all over the place but without the footballing ability to get the win from it.

England and Croatia are old adversaries now according to Jon Champion on ITV due to playing each other in qualifiers before.

They were all dead on their feet against Spain, 4 of them cramped up late in the game.

If they are doping, it might only be slightly more than the other teams.

The "if it looks like a duck, if it walks like a duck, and if quacks like a duck" test working well as ever.

Oh well, Russia always the winter Olympics to look forward to. Oh, wait, no... they're banned as a nation for doping. :pac:

Would be great to see bans handed out for accusations of doping with zero evidence other than "they didn't look tired enough"

Yeah, but proof is needed. And if they are hopefully it'll be found, and not swept under the carpet. Rumours about other world cup winners in recent years came to nohing..

Is Modric doping? He was full on all game long, no sign of tiredness at any stage. I don't have the stats but I'd be surprised if any player covered more ground than him.

He plays for Real Madrid the European Club Champions, are they all doping?

You know like going by your theory if there are some at it then they are all at it.

Has a professional footballer ever been caught for PED use? I can only think of a couple banned for recreational drug cocaine. In every other sport you get athletes banned every now and again for Peds but not football it seems.

Clean sport or Corrupted from top to bottom?

Not a hope it's clean! Testing not stringent enough
