HIRLAM for tomorrow evening from the 18Z run. Every other frame for 24hrs either side shows -8 uppers or below, 1900hrs is around -7 but I chose it because look at that snow for us Dublin dwellers!

another very light snow flurry here, the showers seem to make it intact as far as north Meath then start fragmenting very quickly between there and South Meath. Hopefully the large clusters of showers further north will survive the journey better.

I spend a lot of time stalking because I love big weather events of any kind but this absolute ramp of a thread deserves an obligatory excitement post! :pac:

I'll be curtain twitching all weekend here in Tallaght. Last time it snowed I spent time pull cars out of ditches on my way to work, up by view point.

I have to get to an event in Co. Monaghan on Saturday - would it be worth calling off?
My plan was to stay until Sunday and I can't really afford to get stranded...

Are we talking a sprinkling or enough to disrupt traffic ?

If Met Éireann have called "significant" accumulations at +72hrs (when in Ireland snow is almost always a nowcast) then they are either very confident or very stupid.

Their form in the last few years, with remarkable consistency, has been anything but the latter.

Hmm.. probably not worth risking then.

I've got to head from the south coast to there so it's nearly a 400km drive home if I stick to motorway.

GFS not keen on anything significant for Ireland away from the far north on Sunday. Still knife edge.

Snow/sleet here now, the wind that accompanied it is more notable though blowing snow in every direction but down.

I'd compare it to the UKMO but for some reason it's still October.

In the town. Just poked head out front door. Some of the fall from earlier, remains in the corners, but that's it. Currently raining, and very windy.

    What's up next week??

Will it be as bad as 2010? Do we need to stock up in case the electric or pipes go?

Interesting comparison here. APERGE shows a pasting for the midlands for Saturday night (and almost all of central England) yet it shows almost no snow at all now. If it's understating things, we're in for some fun.

My usual caveat: I'ma long time reading but reasonably new to doing any meaningful analysis of the charts. I could be talking about my arse, but I think I'm not. Surely will be quickly corrected round these parts if so :)

1mm rain = 1cm snow; so that's 10cm / hr on the last chart. To be taken with much salt.

ICON is doing the exact same thing; understating snow today based on live reports and shows tons of it on Saturday night / Sunday AM.

It's a pity we don't get more reports from the north midlands.

Getting some snow again here in south Cavan, heavy but wettish snow, could be interesting to see how much we get before morning.

Accuweather app showing snow coming my way in 55 mins apparently. (Kildare). Same app says snow in 25 mins for Dublin.

Wishful thinking or is it likely ?

Typically when we had precipitation earlier temps were too high but now when temps are on the slide, showers have dried up.
Current Temp 2.7c with a DP of 1.2c here in Waterford City under clear skies

Northern Ireland seems to be getting a right pasting, most of it then heading into the Irish sea towards the Isle Of Man and eventually north Wales.
