Ross Hill? Are you talking about the woefully inadequate train service from Oranmore? If we're going to provide real alternatives to get people out of cars and onto public transport it needs to be quicker, cheaper and more efficient than sitting in traffic. The train service is none of those things.

Can you drive from Oranmore to Ceannt in less than 10 minutes? I thought there was a traffic issue in Galway - are you on a hoverboard?

How cheap would that service need to be for you to use it?

There's a bit of a chicken and egg situation with public transport. People don't take it cause it's crap and it's crap because people don't take it. I think they should just convert large parts of the existing road structure to bus and cycle lanes and let people decide between 20min bus trip or 1hr car trip in traffic, but I'm probably in the minority with this opinion. I think most people would go nuts if we replaced existing lanes with bus lanes. Sure the problem is all the other people on the road, not ourselves :D

Fair point, but how often does the train run at rush hour? The first train is not until 0800, with another one at 0828. That's no use to someone who has to be in work at 8, as many people do. A single ticket is €5.95, return €8.85. That's not cheap. Public transport needs to be cheap, frequent and reliable to provide a realistic alternative. As long as the government declines to subsidise public transport, people will continue to favour their cars. AFAIK Irish public subsidy to public transport is one of the lowest in Europe.

Could be more journeys for sure. Price is less than 5.95 if you buy online. If you get a taxsaver ticket (which if you're going to commute regularly is a no-brainer) it's cheap as chips - it would €1290 which if you're on the higher rate would cost you just over a tenner a week.

No I am talking about the existing road infrastructure here. It is a fact that you have not one, but two dual carraigeways from Oranmore side towards the City + the OLD Dublin Road (the Coast Road) and yet still people will rat run through Ross Hill at peak car traffic times to avoid using all the these roads.

Any more posts will only be about the topic at hand - protesters protesting possible increase traffic through Menlo, Tirellan, and Ballinfoile.

No other area may be discussed as it only the dilutes the efforts of the protesters with general complaints and bickering.

Don't get the landlocked idea? Has anybody seen detailed plans for the proposal?

The decision has been made, the CPO's are going ahead

    https://galwaybayfm.ie/galway-bay-fm-news-desk/an-bord-pleanala-confirms-compulsory-purchase-order-for-kirwan-roundabout-upgrade/

In making its decision, An Bord Pleanala considered a number of areas including the city development plan, the community need, the overall design and the submissions received.

It stated that the permanent and temporary acquisition of the lands in question and the extinguishment of the public right of way is necessary and the objections cannot be sustained having regard to the said necessity.
