Last week was my first crash.

Perversely enough, I'm looking forward to the next one :pac:

tbh, it isn't as exciting the second time around. You always remember your first time.

The trading volume has been so small across all coins on Bittrex the last few days. The top trading coin is usually x3 or x4 times the current volume.

ATH improved upon today. Currently at $8.50.

    $9.40 now on Binance. Sweet.

Are people spread across multiple exchanges in order to get exposure to the most Alts ?
Im just on Bitstamp and Bittrex at the mo, feel like I'm missing out but at the same time the limited amount of alts means I avoid FOMOing hard

I've done the same with VeChain, up 300% now.

Sold and buy orders in for the inevitable dip.

    Anyone any input on this....

Some folk have noticed a trend when it comes to the price of USDT (Tether) and are using its price fluctuations as an indicator that the whales are dumping alt-coins.
The theory is that whale groups are using USDT as a bridge currency when they dump and crash the alt-coins.

When the price of USDT spikes suddenly then the dumping of altcoins begins within moments of each other. To use it to your advantage then buy when there is high volatility in the USDT price and you'll be closer to the dip they say.

One guy has even developed a website graphing out past events and monitoring current volatility:

    Altcoin Volatility Index

*note the volatility index go from:0 to 100 on Jan 18th

Anyone have an opinion on Cindicator Cnd.

I bought 1000 on a random coin gamble but seems to be rising now.

Well thank f*ck I wasn't near the phone/internet when VEN went on that run this morning. It would have been very tempting for me to sell at least 25% of my stack and try to buy them back on a dip.

However, I got burned doing this a few weeks ago with ICX. For about 10 days, I watched it rise from about $4.80 to $6.80 and then back down. That was its daily routine for far too long, so long that I decided to do a bit of day-trading with it to try to increase my overall hold. It was 'sure' to work in my favour, given ICX's price movements of the previous 10 days.

Well, the day I decided to sell 50% of my ICX stack at the 'high' of $6.50, was the day that ICX jumped off from $6.50 up to $13. Even with the crash last week, ICX still hasn't dipped back down to that $4.80 that I was hoping to buy back in at, the price I was sure it would dip back to.

Ever since, I've been trying to regain those lost ICX through various dips, but I'm basically lucky to get them back for the $6.50 'high' I sold them for while trying to be a trading wizard timing the market. In the end, that whole ICX move has proved essentially pointless for me, as well as time-consuming.

Look, there could be another crash next week (or tomorrow, or in 2 minutes!) where we're looking at a $3.50 VEN, and I'll be kicking myself that I didn't sell some at the current price of $8.50. Fact is though, you just don't know what's going to happen in this market. Trying to time the crypto market is very dangerous ground IMO, unless you are a whale who can make huge gains from a price changing by a mere 10 to 20 cents. For most of the rest of us, the risk just isn't worth it from my experience.

For the last few weeks online, according to anyone 'in the know' about VeChain, the price was going to simmer around $4.50-$7.50 until the end of February when they have their rebranding event. No one knows anything about how these prices are going to move. The few people who do aren't posting about it on social media.

So that's my story, and the dilemma I face when trying to day-trade and increase my portfolio in the alts I want to hold long-term. With alts I'm only looking for a quick buck from, day-trading is fine. However, trying to time the market to increase my stash in a long-hold coin is just not worth it from my own experience.

I hope it works out long-term for the two posters above, and it's already proved profitable for SteelyDan. Even though I'm betting strongly on Vechain taking off to great heights, I want the chance to put more FIAT in at a lower price than the current double-digit highs. I hope that dip comes, but because of what happened with me and my ICX, I have to laugh in agreement with Zero Threat's Bill meme.

We all know from school that Caveat Emptor means 'Let the buyer beware', but does anyone know what 'Let the seller beware' is in Latin? :pac:

Don't beat yourself up. I completely missed the boat on VEN but got in early on ICX. You can't win them all. This is a completely unpredictable market. I spent a lot of time in the early days studying TA and trying to anticipate price movements. I've concluded its a complete waste of time. All I do now is review my portfolio every couple of weeks. I think more time spent on research and the less on trading seems to be working better for me and a lot less stressful.

I have not looked at my portfolio once in almost a week since the first dip. I don't plan to look at it until the market recovers. No point it will only piss me off. Now i no longer check it 10 times a day I'm just leaving it be...

There is a lot of talk about Elixir on Bitcointalk. Currently $.66 with an ATH of $2.33, might pick up a few.

It sure is. Considering it's already 'tomorrow' in South Korea, we should hear some news soon enough.

However, this launch has been long known about. As an ICX holder myself, I'm thinking that this mainnet launch may already be factored into the current price. That's not to say that I don't expect some positive movement for ICX in the next 24 hours, I just don't expect it to go parabolic because of the mainnet launch.

Great project though. I'm planning on holding for 2018. Whatever about the price of the coin, I'm expecting the project to go far. Especially with some positive news and important clarifications coming out about Korean banks and exchanges and government regulations over the last 24 hours.

(In short: Korean citizens are allowed to resume trading, exchanges will resume taking new registrations from next week, SK government are not banning crypto trading, at all, just regulating)
