Civil Servant, his pension from that job is probably worth a fortune when he actually gets round to retiring, might well make financial sense for him to stick to the BDO even if he could make a short term killing in the PDC for few years!

Durrant is a post man isn't he? Hardly huge money. Theres an awful amount of traveling if you want to make money in the PDC too, maybe he doesn't want it.

And should he win this year in year out, it's a handy 100k for a weeks work. How much has he earned in 2017?

He'd probably need to crack top 10 in PDC to make it worthwhile

jesus the bitterness dripping from those "big fish small pond" comments. There's more to life than making coin ffs.

Durrant made a nice bit on the exhibition circuit last year also. I imagine the BDO champ can command a decent fee. Plus his new sponsorship deals.

Makes perfect financial sense for him to stay put. Has a good day job and is earning considerable side income through darts.

Fair play to GD, seems like a level headed fella.

Why would he go onto the PDC circus when he's making a few quid playing darts and had has a pensionable job.

Might be different if the BDO isn't televised next year and the prize money drops off

Not at all.. I just wanna see him take on the better players in the PDC.. He's got the talent, his averages are way ahead of anything else and he's capable of doing it on the bigger stage like he did at the Grand Slam. From a fans perspective I always thought he'd have the bottle to make top 16 easily in the PDC

I've just copped it, Nicholson is trying to copy of the late Sid Waddell. TWAT.

I actually quite like Nicholson's commentary.

"More angles than a trigonometry convention" is my personal favourite from this week.

That kind of statement is exactly why he isn't liked. Don't know how anyone liked Sid's commentary either tbh

Lisa Ashton played very well. 90 average very good for a women's match.

Her scoring is the best I've ever seen by a female.

She really would beat over half the men.

Just shows how psychological darts is. Anastasia was unstoppable first set and Lisa Ashton's Darts were all over the shop.

Think Waites is in for a hammering here.

Very true, she threw excellently today, well deserved the win!

Gulliver's 10 world titles probably won't be matched, but Ashton is without doubt the best ever.
How much money did she win? Just heard runner up got 5 grand

The total prize pool is £12k I think and breaks down as follows for the women.

    Round Prize
    Winner £4,000
    Final £2,000
    Semi Final £1,500
    Quarter Final £1,250
    Last 16 £1,000

Probably the worst semi final I've ever seen here. How the hell is mcgeany world number 1. I've literally never seen him play well.

Kinda strange too to have the ladies final in the early afternoon and only 1 match this evening ðŸ˜

I know why he's number one, im saying how the hell can he possibly be the best player in the bdo this year. He is muck

(I know currant is better than him)

I can't see McGeeney troubling Durrant tomorrow

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,160 ✭✭✭Huntergonzo

Pity Unterbuchner is gone, would have loved to see him make the final, McGeeney hasn't been great and just looks like your garden variety english BDO player, a lad from Munich in the final would have been a lot more exotic.

Still though, gotta love the BDO, the PDC is far better but the Lakeside is one of the best venues in world darts and there's a certain charm to the BDO world championship.
