If Rose is who Jose wants, given how the vast majority of his signings have improved us, I'd trust him. Getting a homegrown player from Spurs will always mean we have to pay extra, but if that's who he wants, I'd rather we just pay the few million extra and get him.

Ryan Sessegnon is home grown too though the age difference would be off putting given the pressure on a 17 year old to go into the first team, Rashford did very well when he was put in but he was a different story. Still Sessegnon has done something neither Rose nor Shaw has done and that's score 12 goals for his club.

Tierney is very much a celtic fan and recently enough sinned a lengthy extension.

Infairness to Jose all his signings have improved the team bar Miki. I'd rather give Shaw the few months to prove he's worth holding on to and buy for other positions this month.

Means little, imo. He's a professional and will, sooner or later, make a big money move away from celtic.

Signing Rose would be a frivolous waste of money IMO.

There was talk prior to last summer that United were very interested in him, but felt it was too soon to bring him in, and was put on the target list for the summer coming..

Width comes from our full backs. Rose would be an improvement, hugely, on what we have seen from left back over the majority of the last few seasons.

Also interesting that the Mkhitaryan to Inter story also appeared in BBC piece on Jose today.

His time is up so. I know his form fell away anyway but his most recent games looked like someone with zero morale, this news stacks up with a guy who also knows he is leaving.

Agreed, sooner or later. I'd rather it be later, let him stay there to develop and play week in week out and make the move when he's more ready to handle pressure and expectations.

Aren't Inter crippled financially by FFP? They'll want him for nothing after a loan spell.
After fecking us around over Perisic we should tell them to take a hike.

Now in a fight for top 3/4, but in a strong position. The end of the year has been a disaster for us and I can't wait to get this year behind and hopefully get back to winning ways in 2018.

Great thing about football is there is always another opportunity to get back on the momentum train, Everton provides that next.

The rivals have had good Christmas's overall, Chelsea being the most consistent. Just the defeat to West Ham and draw with Everton to blemish them, Spurs look great at times but it isn't really that long ago they went 4 without a win including draws to West Brom, Watford, defeats to Arsenal and Leicester. They have also lost to City this month, then again though who hasn't. Liverpool have had a good month also since drawing with Chelsea they then drew with Arsenal, Everton and West Brom. The games they did win they won well though which creates an impression. Arsenal (who are another of the teams apparently playing much better than us) lost to us, drew with Southampton, West Ham, Liverpool and go to West Brom today. Then they have Chelsea on the 3rd.

United of course beat Arsenal West Brom and Bournemouth but the 3 draws to end the year is what will leave the taste in the mouth. That is fair enough, they have not been good enough results but the end of the world stuff does need a reality check.

This post has now gone all over the place, I apologise but Im pressing post anyway

In light of the last couple of days results, I am becoming more convinced of my opinion.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

Or we could use them to get a poorly performing player out the door.  Perhaps offer a player plus cash for Perisic

Yeah but checked the schedule and it shows it's live on Eir Sport 2.

EDIT: Also live in France on Bein Sports 2, so getting streams shouldn't be a problem for some.

Barkley to Chelsea for 15million is a bargain of a deal.

At that price he would have been worth a punt but my gut feeling is that it would be hard to have him and Pogba in the same midfield.

I actually think it would be perfect. Let him do on the right what Pogba does on the left. Matic to sweep behind them. Be better than Herrera playing nowhere. Alas, won't happen.

We have enough of potential. Time to buy quality alongside Pogba.

I think in midfield, we need a bit of both tbh.

Mind, Barkley looked set on Chelsea and not much else.

Its not so much about potential, as he has talent, just needs to be consistent and smarter in his play.

IMO United have Pogba and Matic as two midfielders we can rely on. Herrera has been poor this season (I argued Herrera is a better fit for us than Barkley in the summer). Fellaini could be off in the summer. Carrick will almost certainly be off in the summer. That leaves Lingard, going through a great spell at the moment and one I would count on to be an important squad player at least. Pereira, to me, looks a great prospect but I'm unconvinced he will show that at United. McTominay I don't have any faith in.

Signing Barkley, at that price, would have been worth the punt because at worst he would become a very good squad option. Could he develop as a deeper midifielder - maybe yeah, apparently thats the plan Spurs had for him.

That said, I'm not gonna be crying over him going to Chelsea. Right now I would really like to see Pereira being given the chance to make a midfield spot his. He has the technique, ability and tenacity to be a cracking player for us and I am still annoyed that he wasn't kept for this season.

At 15m he wouldn't be a bad addition but would prefer a better calibre of cm was bought and then give Perrira a fair crack of it next season.
Midfield needs a lot of work, Carrick and Fellaini probably won't be there next season and Herrera's form is very worrying.

    Edit:as Mitch says

I'm a fan of Barkley. Had the discussion earlier on how I'd like us to make a move for him. I know some have their doubts but he's shown more than enough quality in my opinion that given the right manager and work he'd be a top quality player.

Still only 24 as well. Be very interesting to see how he gets on with Chelsea.

Think its a waist of time going after more potential or squad options. This is the problem we have faced for 3+ years. We have enough of that in the team.
Even Pereira on Loan is arguably just as good or better than what Barkley has shown.

Completely agree. I'm a fan of Barkley's..........think there is a very good footballer there but for whatever reason, he hasn't developed it yet. We have enough in the early to mid 20 years old bracket (Bailly, Shaw, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Lingard, Pereira, etc). We need to start adding quality first team members to the squad.
