I don't think the restriction is like that. Might be we currently have 24 so could only register one more but we could register ozil in place of one of the currently registered players.

Can only add one player who has already played in the other European Competition.

Don't think Ozil played though so maybe both are okay.

    "Article 44 Subsequent registration

44.01 For all matches from the start of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum
of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current
competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2018 (24.00CET)
at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

44.02 One player from the above quota of three who has been fielded in a UEFA club
competition group stage match for another club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
    a. in the same competition for another club; or
    b. for another club that is currently in the same competition.

44.03 One or more players from the above quota of three who have been fielded only in
the first, second or third qualifying round or play-offs of the UEFA Champions
League or UEFA Europa League for another club are entitled to be registered"

Leading a one horse race isn't that difficult.

Wenger not giving much away there

Eh? You think city have pulled out? What makes you think that?

Everything ive read indicates they still want him, just won't match what United are offering - but his decision may not be 100% down to money.

    Wenger confirmed Sanchez is gone
To what club he won't say

Lets hope he comes to us but my gut feeling it will be City

Not pulled out but they're not showing much interest really more still in the starting block.

Ok Sanchez is definitely gone from Arsenal now. Still find it hard to believe he'll pick us over City.

    Simon Stone, BBc

Think this is one Man Utd won't believe is done until it is over the line. As recently as late last week, people inside club felt Sanchez to City was more or less certain. City felt player would prefer to join them. Interesting to see if Pep Guardiola makes a final push.

  • Imagine being an Arsenal fan regardless who he goes too

1% of me kinda feels sorry for them

The other 99% is laughing out loud

Everything points to wanting Sanchez now and Ozil in the summer. Get them, and realistically there's nowhere for Griezmann to fit.
    Lukaku
    Martial - Ozil - Sanchez
    Pogba - Matic

I'd imagine nabbing Sanchez for 30m ish, and Ozil on a free, would mean we could properly focus financially on deepening the midfield and buying some top level wingbacks. This could be some of the best transfer business we've done in years.

(That's also, btw, ignoring the fact it feels like a "Didn't want her anyway" scenario with Griezmann, who looks Barca-bound....)
A good set up and 2 quality players signed for very little money although I'd prefer a cm who would help get the best from Pogba. Someone to play in a 433,right sided cm.

Looking forward to all the lies about fees and wages if Sanchez does sign for United.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,175 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Well it does appear to be a one horse race. City were not prepared to meet the transfer fee to get him now. So unless they suddenly will raise thier bid we are his only option. He either joins us now or waits to join City in July. If he was gunna wait for City he could still play for Arsenal until then.

Why the hell has Özil been dropped?

First time I'm warily becoming confident not that Wenger said "immenent"

    Lukaku
    Martial --- Sanchez
    Pogba - Ozil
    matic

In most games we are pinning people on their own half anyway and I feel that 4-3-3 and 4-2-3- 1 becomes interchangeable at that point anyway.

Ok Richard Keyes just said on bein sport that breaking news is that Sanchez to United is happening as we speak...

Who drops out when we need a bit more of a balance?

Or do we get Pogba to play a more disciplined role?

I think we often overestimate the amount of games we are camped in the oppositions half.

A truly sensational coup if you get him.
A sackable offense for Wenger and their entire board.

I disagree. We literally do it to every team outside the “Big 6” clubs at Old Trafford. Thats a third of the seasons games right there.

Why was Ozil left out of squad? Injured?

I don't think we control the ball or control possession well enough to properly "camp" in any oppositions half of the field.

Dont think we should bother with Özil if we get Sanchez.

Fcuk me though, maybe Wilshere be worth a punt on a free. Doing quite well nowadays.

Fair enough, I can't come up with a source of territory stats to prove otherwise.

I feel like there have been games that we've won comfortably at OT this season where we haven't been camped in the opposition half along with games we've struggled in.

And even if we did I think we'd need a different approach for another 1/3 to 1/2 of our games.

I'm wondering what others feel we should do for those other genes even if we disagree over how many of those games there will be.

I'm not sure if changing pogbas role is the solution.

Wilshere would be a good signing.

If he renews a contract with them I wouldnt bother but if hes allowed become a free agent AND his knees dont explode before seasons end he'd be well worth it.

Keys on Bein Sports started the half time saying Sanchez is indeed on his way to Manchester but to United and not City and then finished ht going to a break with this statement “Alexis Sanchez IS going to Manchester United” as they cut to the adds
