has anyone else been experiencing really slow match making the last while? (with a fireteam, solo seems okay)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

I was trying to get a quick game of something in at lunch and the load-times were shockingly slow - easily 4 or 5 times longer than I'm used to.

I'm just past the 560 mark without trying too hard. I spent most of last night trying to get ingredients for baked goods...

Am at level 50 and completed Forsaken story. LL at around 528 but have no idea what I should be doing now. Finding it hard to get groups for raids on PC..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,935 ✭✭✭Tazzimus

Dreaming City mainly, that'll give you a boost.

Its impossible unless you are in an active Destiny clan, I have the game a year and raids completed 0.

    We have 2 or 4 ....never 6.

The daily/weekly missions with powerful gear is what you need to do. That means PVP which for I reckon 80% of destiny players is something they do 3 times a day.

For Raid groups, try the DestinySherpa Subreddit. By all accounts they are very good for helping first time raiders.

    Nice.

I want bigger shinier shootier things and raids are the only way to get them.

For me, VoG and Crota raids will never be topped. WoTM is a close 3rd. The rest are cheap imitations!!

The gear and weapons you got from those raids were the best.

Yeah, rewards wise D1 raids were better. Last Wish is, however, one of my top 3.

I really want the curated roll on the new raid shotgun, it's basically a kinetic version of the Ikelos SG 1.01 it's the only other shotty in the game with trench barrel.

Kings Fall a cheap imitation. You sir have taken leave of your senses.

Kings Fall is top slot for me, Last Wish is right up there too

From a pure game design standpoint, Last Wish is the best raid they've done.

The mechanics of each boss are wildly different yet all have the same theme of symbols running through them, all 3 classes are extremely useful, it's very pretty from a visual perspective and most importantly, it drops armor thats better than what you can get everywhere else.

It's just a shame that 5 out of the 6 encounters can be cheesed.....some of them really heavily which makes it fairly trivial to run. Doing it in the first few weeks was a completely different experience because no cheese had been discovered. The light level didn't change having to learn the mechanics.....cheese did.

What encounters can be cheesed? I was only aware of the Riven one.

Last Wish is really enjoyable, though I don't know that I'd agree it's great game design if most of the encounters can be cheesed (though I wasn't aware this was the case apart from Riven).

Kali can be cheesed by just grouping up at a single pad. She is supposed to pick somebody at random and appear there for a few seconds.....but if you all group up you can just zerg her down.

Shuro Chi's one is minor but it still effects the encounter. You can just ignore the eye/wipe mechanic by dpsing her down.

Morgeth isn't supposed to be one phased but whisper does so much dmg that if you just stand in a rift and fire, he dies in like 10 seconds. There is another one where you just Group up beside him with ikelos type weapons and a rift. You are "supposed" to get an eye and super him at 90% but nobody bothers because with whisper, he just dies.

The vault cheese is fairly ridiculous. Get out a tractor cannon and "boop" the eye of riven guy outside the room. The room locks down but both you and the dead eye are in the main room. Completely trivializes the encounter because you can instantly dunk and don't have to walk around.

We all know the Riven cheese where you go as 6 in a rift with cluster rockets. This one hurts the most because this is a bloody terrific encounter when done normally.

The only one without a cheese is the heart, the 6th one. Sure, there is some minor stuff you can do like running faster with the ball but you still have to do the encounter the way it was intended.

All that stuff should've been patched after a month. It's all still there, unfortunately.

I wouldn't class Shuro Chi or Morgeth as you have described them there. You still have to engage with the vast majority of mechanics, in Shuro Chi, and with Morgeth I view the eye super as a fall back in the event that you don't have enough DPS to one phase. I don't think you're necessarily supposed to use the eye as you put it, I just think it's intended to be something you can do to prevent a wipe if necessary.

Cheesing to me means to purposefully not engage with an encounter's mechanics. I don't think engaging with a fight fully and just happening to have enough DPS to avoid a wipe can be classed as cheese to be honest. The only real alternative is to stop damaging the boss or else purposefully lower your light level.

I do agree on the Kalli and Riven cheese, however.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,935 ✭✭✭Tazzimus

Kalli there's no need to cheese really as it's handy as is.
Shuro Chi and Morgeth are just using powerful weapons, especially in Morgeths encounter. You still have to do the majority of the mechanics.
Again, the vault one isn't really needed as it's not an overly hard encounter as it is, the Knights are the trickier part of that.

I see the Riven one as fairly cheesy, but somewhat similar to one phasing Calus.

Best raid they done was the taken king, speaking of which I will be off most of Christmas so will be organising a retro raid run :)

Bungo have already stated that they don't consider melting Morgeth to be a cheese, I also wouldn't class Shuro Chi as a cheese either as you still need to do all the mechanics to take down her shield and the ddr pads to get to the next level of the encounter.

Not much they can do about the vault encounter and I would consider that a valid, if unconsidered strategy. Bungo expected everyone to run side to side after Crota, instead everyone just stood on the window sill.

I would 100% consider Riven to be a cheese though, Bungie still haven't decided whether or if they can do something without destroying the balance of the encounter. I would expect Riven to be given extra damage resilience that is negated with a buff upon reaching the top floor.

The popularity of speed runners (Gladd) etc has resulted in a lot of the techniques listed above being employed earlier in a Raids life cycle than before.
Also, given how long it takes to gear up for the last 3 Raids and Lairs, it means people are going in for some of their 1st runs with a lot of this specialised knowledge already.
And bypassing a wipe mechanic or surpassing a DPS check isn't a "cheese". There were lesser mechanics like that in D1 where you could get yourself out of a bind if you're team messed up, a bit like cleansing someone in VoG.
They could change Tractor Cannon to "Boops everything except sticky footed Hive Knights" and 99.99% would not be upset over that. Tractor Cannon could be D2s Ice Breaker in terms of Raid design.
Melting Morgeth = Melting Warpriest. But Melting Riven though feels cheap.
