So i started this over the weekend and i'm still on the fence about it.

On one hand im sure its gonna be great fun once you get the hang but the start is just mental with all it throws at you.

Decided on a dual blades weapon as they seem to be the best fun right now.

Wait till you start sliding down hills and spinning from head to tail on a beast

Picked up the controller for the first time in months, since before Lunastra was released was the last time I played. Got my butt handed to me by her. So rusty, and yet I tore arch tempered Nergigante a new h*le in less than 5 minutes. Geez! Kinda annoyed that it took that long though, even being arch tempered. My quickest Nerigante hunt is about 2:20. The controller is down again though for another few months, maybe until Iceborne is released. Then again there is that Great Jagras event for jewels that may sway me to pick it up again.

Arch Temp Nergigante isn't released yet. I assume you mean't tempered

Err yeah. I think. I dunno. I just see Nergigante and I smash its horns with my hammer!

Haven't played in a while, because I got sick of Lunastra and it's bull****. Behomoth is a thing I want to kill again, but I am sick of failing and failing on it. It's even worse when he does his Nova before death and some unlucky dude gets caught by it and quest is fail...
So after hearing about new Jagra I went in and damn I am having fun! All those extra angry big monsters are cool and all, but I am no elitist, I can't fight them well. So having this big yellow dork that vomits stuff is great!
No one actually cares about killing him. It's like a bad low budget porn where everyone runs around him and then getting excited when he vomits all over the floor. :D

Finally built that Wyvern GS! Loving it!!!!

There is a transmog mod on PC :)

    https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/43

160 hours in now myself, have some great builds completed for various weapons.
Ive gravitated to the Heavy and light bowguns, very complicated with all the status ammo etc, having to craft on the fly too and making sure you have the materials in your pouch to do so.
Still really like the charge blade, great sword, switch axe to name a few, seems to be countless possible builds for each weapon making it almost infinite build possibilities.
Starting the augmenting process now on gear sets so its arch tempered monsters for materials needed which is a big step up from high rank.
Easily one of the best games ive ever played.

I hear ya about the melee combos, some are annoying as fcuk.

The HBG is a total beast at certain ammo types, for example it does pierce ammo, sticky ammo, cluster ammo better than the LBG.
One of my favourite builds is the dark devourer HBG cluster bomb/sticky ammo build, also really love the kulve taroth support with pierce ammo.
Wyvern Snipe is one of my favourite abilities in the game, going prone and lining up the full length of the monsters body then driving the shot through his whole body :P
As for being slow it is a bit but with skills like evade extender and also bowgun mods like reload assist it really helps and improves the negatives you mentioned, you can even put a shield mod on the HBG :P

The problem is in some weapons you can't cancel out of combos. Case and point dual blades chaos dance. Once you mash that y+b you are on the ride until the end! Bit of a stupid drawback for the weapon tbh

The only reason i go with the HBG is certain HBG`s do certain ammo types 10x better than LBG ie pierce ammo and cluster ammo and ofcourse wyvernsnipe :P

I mix and match between both depending on monster.

As for being out of range of monsters, that all changes once you hit the tempered ones, they are lightning fast and jump at you in an instant, doesnt matter too much if your ranged or melee :) this is where evade extender on HBG bigtime closes the gap on LBG.

Just started it this evening on PC, im not sure what to make of it.....:eek:
I have absolutely no idea whats going on or what to do...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

Witcher 3 collab is live, and its really really really good. Don't want to spoil anything but they kept it very close to the source material as possible rather than just adding a bunch of Witcher stuff to a Monster Hunter game.

    That's free yeah?
This weekend there is the Division 2 beta, Tetris Effect Demo Trial & then also Alex Legends, a Devil May Cry 5 demo to catch up on too.....as well as this.

Give it atleast 3-4 hours, get a few hunts in and see what you think, the beginning of the game is a snoozefest only for you to reach a point where a tonne of info is thrown at you.

Switched to using a game pad to play, game seem more suited to using a controller. Been messing around with different weapons as well. Seem to like double daggers.. Is this a mistake?
Scratch that ive gone back to Keyboard & mouse

Try these settings, totally transformed the game for me, tried the controller that i bought for the game but M&KB is so much more precise and faster.
Hitting those weak points with ranged is 10x better, also great for melee.

I think im getting the hang of this:D:D

Pukei-Pukei and Barroth taken down with relative ease compared to that damn first monster..

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,710 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Speaking of affinity its actually really good.
Wait until you make a build with 100% affinity :)

Karma is probably the best LBG early game.
Definitely strive for the empress styx LBG later, it is amazing, excels with elemental ammo but can even do very well with slicing and pierce ammo.
It has rapid fire for Thunder and Water which on some late game monsters is fantastic, also as i mentioned slicing ammo which for the final phase of Kulve Taroth really is amazing.

@ Ropedrink checkout the Gameconomist on youtube for some great builds and guides.

Thanks to him and some theory crafting myself i have 15 or so builds for heavy and light bowguns for different monsters.
    He is excellent.

This is one of my personal best and favourites, face tanking arch tempered monsters and dishing out massive damage, its a joy to play.

I have about 50 hours played of this and i have absolutly no idea what the previous two posts are about :( im playing this game completly wrong arnt i.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,643 ✭✭✭Glebee

50 hours in and im sort of board with Monster Hunter World... Its a very decent game but i think ive had enough for the moment. Killing the same monsters over and over at the end is getting to me. The fact also that The Division 2 is call me is not helping either.:D

If div 2 has an endgame anywhere near MHW and sheer amount of gear to go after ill be very happy, MHW endgame is fantastic.

Logged into MHW this morning for the first time in an age and logged straight back off. No desire to play anymore. I think the game went completely over my head, dont get the hype around it to be honest.

I got the game at launch and hardly played it. Just didn't click with me. There's certainly a good game here, it's just not for me. If I was being critical and it's not necessarily the game's fault it does throw a lot at you straight off the bat.
There's so many good games now or at least ones I want to play, unless something gets its hooks in early I won't persevere.
