I've saved up my monies and I'm finally looking to upgrade my 5 year old laptop to something new.

I do know that buying a laptop has a significantly worse performance:cost ratio, but portability is non-negotiable for me as I regularly play in different rooms in the house and bring the laptop with me to play when I'm on the road.

    So, that said:
    • My budget is ideally topped out at €1700-€1800 but I could stretch to €2k-ish if I had to
    • The minimum graphics card I'm willing to go for is a GTX 1060. Paying that much money and going for less doesn't make sense.
    • I'm not actually hugely fussed about super shiny graphics, I'd rather have good performance...
    • But I also want this to do me for up to another five years without locking me out of AAA titles for a while
I've been looking at some of the HP Omens and Asus ROGs but I'm really not that knowledgable about specs.

Additionally, I am willing to wait if there's anything new in the works coming out in the first quarter or so of 2018.

So please, if you have any ideas I'd be most grateful.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Some of the ones I've been looking at:
HP Omen (doesn't ship here, though)
    MSI Leopard Pro
    Medion Erazer

saveonlaptops have a version of the Erazer for £1.5k with a better i7 and the GTX1070. If you plan keeping it as least as long as your previous one, I'd say you'd want the 1070. Will play games at 1080p ultra for a fair few years.

Also check pcspecialist, they sometimes have good prices and you can chose not to pay for Windows, which is a nice option to save a bit.

Cheers, I was kinda wondering if the GTX1060 was aiming a bit low. I'd rather spend the extra money and get an extra year out of it. I'll have a look at that one and PC Specialist. Thanks!

Notebookcheck are the best site for checking thermals, noise, throttling issues etc.

Whatever laptop you get, buy with a 120Hz+ panel.
At your budget a 60Hz panel can & should be avoided.

    Good video.

Thanks a million. The video really gave me some food for thought. I'm definitely willing to have something a little bulkier if it allows better cooling. Cheers!

This one seems like good value for money, what do ye think?
    GTX 1070 and 120Hz screen.

Looks good to me, pretty much as powerful as my desktop.

I would get the extended warranty on something like that as well for peace of mind
