Lads I'm calling it, Conor will be announced as fighting Diaz in June (Event location still not announced, one of only 2 PPV events this year without a location confirmed) in Vegas for "Fight Week" in July with the winner fighting the winner of Tony vs Khabib.

They'll spin some ****e about how they HAD to do Tony vs Khabib because of the history of the fight and how it NEEDS to happen blah blah and then they'll justify the McGregor Diaz fight as some sort of fight as some sort of "gift" to the fans because Conor wants to come back but it's too close to the Khabib vs Tony fight for the winner to get the nod, especially if Khabib wins.

That wouldn't shock me but I really hope this isn't the route McGregor goes down. He has enough money in the bank at this stage, as a McGregor fan I'd love to see him really try and cement himself as one of the greats in a sporting sense. He needs to get back to fighting the top contenders.  He's already cemented his place as the richest MMA fighter of all time, by an f*cking country mile too.

Khabib beats Tony....Mcnugget stripped and Khabib becomes the undisputed champ.
    Khabib cant fight in July.
So Mcnugget vs The Nate in June for the interim belt.
    Mcnugget wins.
UFC fight night Moscow becomes a numbered event and we have Khabib vs Mcnugget

Dana suffers from cardiac arrest dude to thinking about the amount of money he would make
Bisping takes his place as the overlord of the UFC
    Fires Yoel Romero.....just in case.

I just can't see why the UFC or McGregor himself would waste one of his rare UFC fights on a Russian event. Gate receipts they'd pull in Vegas or NYC with McGregor headlining would dwarf anything they could ever dream of doing in Russia, it wouldn't even come close.

Dont be silly...you dont get receipts in Russia.

It would be hilarious if Khabib refused to fight Conor if he wins. Demands he earns his shot and proves he can turn up.

Khabib will do what he’s told.

With the Dagestan dictator in his inner circle I don't think Khabib has any need to be a company yes man.

Yeah Lineal does me something - the man who beat the man who beat the man.

but in the same way Whittaker Vs Romero was the fight against the two best MWs at that period, Khabib and Tony is the same.

Conor is not just the lineal though. He is the current LW champion.
The MW situation differs because Whitaker was promoted from Interim to Champion in december.

Yes but just because the UFC arbitrarily decides that Whittakers belt is more important, GSP is still lineal at MW.

But right now the two best LW fighters in the world as proven by their results over a period of time are Tony and Khabib

I don't think fighters even get a slice of the gate so it'd be irrelevant. As long as they broadcast at US PPV time it wouldn't be a problem. If they could go the Rocky V route and bill it as the West vs Russia it could sell really well.

Hmmmm...... so it's more confusing with Dana not specifying what is going on. Anyone else think the UFC will implement multiple champs in a division to then create a super title? Or have lineal champs, like in boxing?

Lineal champs in boxing aren't backed my any of the bodies. They are unofficial and already exist in MMA.
No, can't see this happening. The possible reasons I see the UFC being so ambiguous about the belt:

A - They need to maintain Conor's official status as LW champ for as long as possible, for promotional/other reasons, before UFC 223.
B - Conor could be looking to come back sooner than September, and is still in negotiations with the UFC. They want to keep him champ in case Tony or Khabib pulls out. Or worse, they'll do Conor vs Nate for the belt on the same card or in may/june. Though that wouldn't be so bad if he was stripped before that, leaving Khabib/Tony the undisputed champ.
C - UFC aren't going to strip him at all. I find this unlikely.

    I think it's much simpler.
If they strip him now, and then Tony or Khabib gets injured. They are left with no champion and no title fights. Given Tony v Khabib has fallen through 2 or 3 times. I think they are being cautious.

Yes but just because the UFC arbitrarily decides that Whittakers belt is more important, GSP is still lineal at MW.

The UFC didn't arbitrarily decide. GSP decided. He offically vacated due to injury/illness.

I thought McNuggets only referred to McGregor fans constantly on his balls. Like the ones who think if he's stripped of his title that he's still the real champ as he has the physical belt at home.

If McGregor is stripped now, Tony becomes champion. Same way the interim champ became champ when he was stripped of the other belt. Or have I missed something?

No champion to fight on UFC 223

He would become champ. And if he then got injured, they'd have achieved nothing. In fact they be in a worse spot.
No champion to fight on UFC 223

    Exactly.

McGregor isn't fighting in UFC 223, so thats a moot point.

If he got injured he'd come back and defend. McGregor has been sitting on his arse for how long now, uninjured, refusing to defend. Can't see how having a champ who wants to defend, but is injured, is worse than one that refuses to defend at all.

I cringe whenever someone calls him "McNugget". Probably the most unimaginative nickname I've ever heard. Ye can do better than that lads ffs

Except he hasn't refused. He has given a timeframe that UFC aren't happy with (nor should they be).

If Tony was promoted and then out with an injury, You could have a situation where Conor is fighting before Tony was back. it should be obvious why that's not good from the UFC's perspective.

The gain nothing by stripping Conor early. And waiting until March, they gain information plus a promotion booster for the press conference

It reminds of the pure cringe moment when Cole Miller called him McGoober. That was embarrassing. He dodged a bullet getting injured I think.

It is interesting looking back at that fight. There was a school of thought right up until UFC 189 that the UFC were deathly afraid of matching CMG with a grappler, whereas Cole Miller is as close to a grappling specialist as there was available at the time. McGregor would have completely battered him in fairness - he was excellent that night vs Brandao.

Another funny thought is that Max Holloway actually replaced an injured Andy Ogle in Boston. Current LW champ (debatable I guess) fighting the current FW champ on an undercard on a free TV event on the east coast.

Haha McGoober is infinitely better insult than McNuggets.

You think I thought "Susi Grant", "Session Heads" or "Cavan lads singing Ed Sheerhan songs" were playing as well?

    McNuggets, McGoober...

Nothing will ever, ever, be as bad as Ricardo Lamas' impression. Fúck me, was that bad.
